Video.

It's pretty heartwarming to see how their spirits are holding out after 3 weeks like this. God bless 'em!

It’ll be a great day when they finally get them out of there. This reminds me of the Que Creek miners trapped several years ago in PA. I wonder what they must be thinking.

They’re saying they won’t be out until Christmas. :(

Question: Do they get paid for their time down there?

God bless them indeed. What a bittersweet thing it must be for their families to see the video and know their loved ones are alive, and yet may not get out for months...

Dear Lord, please free the Chilean miners.

Amen.

Yes, I heard that. I’m surprised it will take so long. I know they have to drill probably a 2 foot wide hole 1/2 mile through solid rock, but 4 months?

"Question: Do they get paid for their time down there?"

In all seriousness, I posted a very similar question here at #23 last night, and haven't received a response. I wasn't trying to be a smartass, but simply wondered how it would be addressed.

Question: Do they get paid for their time down there?

The Chilean government has seized $1.8mm dollars for their benefit from the company, which is likely to declare bankruptcy.

The miners average about $15K in wages a year, or about $7.50 an hour.

If they were paid for 24 hours a day for 150 days, it would be about $890K.

But assuming that anything besides 8 hours per weekday is double overtime, it's about $1.8mm.

This breaks my heart. It is beyond comprehension. I can admire the spirit of these men and hope for their quickest retrieval.

As a note, I am so extremely claustrophobic, that even watching the video makes me physically ill.

If they move too fast and make a mistake, those guys will be crushed under thousands of tons of rock.

A big concern is that one or more of them will break down psychologically and cause problems for the whole group.

They're pretty used to being deep underground but . . .

My husband has been an underground miner for over 35 years. He said as long as he was getting paid and there was no management down there to F things up he would be fine.

The mining company said they were bankrupt - the state is paying for the rescue, supposedly.
