I’d lay a little bet that most of the hollywood actors look just like that when they get up in the morning...he has bed head hair, needs a shave and is pissed at his X wife...But Glen sure could sing a song...

I read something somewhere on the back story of the song. Jimmy Webb was driving cross country. They got Glen to do the song and it was a big hit. A lot more to the story.

One of the most beautiful songs written. Rolling Stone called it the first extentential country song. Glen had paid his dues as a session musician, Beach Boy etc in LA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqrMd5y7QXQ&feature=related

I liked True Grit but I didn't care the the part he played until he “died”.

At least he did not sing in either movie!

Well, True Grit was hardly a musical. Especially at the end. He obviously sang the opening though.

I am glad Duke did not sing either. ;-)

It was a decent movie. One of the last John Wayne made. It looked more like Colorado if I remember.

I think Wichita Lineman was their best. By the Time I Get Phoenix was very good but Wichita Lineman was genius songwriting, very moving and very simple too.

I'm sure all western fans will never forget this song by Lee Marvin.

I don't believe THIS ARTIST is underappreciated, but this song is unquestionably one of the best folk songs ever written.

I love the lines, “And I need you more than want you;
And I want you for all time.”
Also the morse code guitar bit.

Great song, great production!

Excellent! Thanks for posting that. (That’s a Jim Webb song, right?)

Anyway, it’s interesting to see that Glen’s still got it. What was most interesting was his work on the Strat. I had forgotten that he’s also a very good guitar player.

Here’s a link to Glen doing the same song, circa 35 years ago.

What he was really unappreciated for was his guitar picking.

Jimmy was genius. He was so young when he wrote that stuff. Barely into his twenties.
He certainly had a vision, and he definitely found the right guy to deliver it.

I don’t know that Glen Campbell is underappreciated. He was a HUGE star from ‘68 to ‘70 or so, when he was having the hits and had his TV show. The hits stopped after ‘77. He had a good run.

I can't believe he recorded this Jimmy Webb song seven years before Waylon, Willie, Kris and Johnny.
