Most underappreciated artist we'll have in our lifetime.

It doesn't get any better

What incredible wonderful memories from the late sixties!
My honey in my arms, tears streaking down my face!

Most excellent - thank you very much!

This is my favorite song by him and a song that has meaning for me, and did when I was living that life.

Agreed this man and this song are amazing. Here’s set with Stone Temple Pilots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDPuK_tqG-Y
“I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time” gives me goosebumps.

Yeah! That was my second choice to post, but EMR is a sentimental favorite of mine.

What I like about Gordon Lightfoot is that he is not a starry-eyed leftist, like some folk singers. He writes the whole gamut from love songs, meditative musings, topical songs, working songs, even songs for children. He was just born to write and sing!

Thanks, FRiend, for reminding me.

That was a million Dead Worlds trailing behind me ago- but I remember...

"and I need you more than want you
and I want you for all time
and the Wichita Lineman
is still on the line..."

Now, to lighten things up, google Jimmy Webb and the washing machine song...

Jimmy Webb has an album ("Ten Easy Pieces") singing his own songs (incl Wichita Lineman, Phoenix, etc) while playing piano. VERY nice and certainly a different spin on his own songs.

Gen Campbell was quite a guitarist and in high demand as a session musician before he found solo fame. He was a part of Hal Blaine's "Wrecking Crew" session players who got a Hollywood star a few years ago. The Wrecking Crew played on just about every major hit back in the day and most of the top singers.

GC also toured as lead guitarist with the Beach Boys after Brian Wilson got into drugs and could no longer do concerts.

Keith Urban did a live version of this a few years ago (good luck- it's a bootleg) that i rather like. In the intro, He cited Jimmy Webb as one of his favorite songwriters. If you can find it, it's a credible cover.(IMHO)

>”One of the most beautiful songs written.”

Agreed. Very pretty song.

I was lucky enough to have been able to attend a concert where he opened for Clint Black a couple years ago. He sang this song and it was as pretty as the first time I ever heard it.

I never knew he toured with the BBs until now. Very cool.

P.S. —> HANDPICKED <— by John Wayne for his part in True Grit. He’s got my vote.

Love Glen, though prefer some of his songs that weren’t big hits—”I’d Build a Bridge,” “Christian No,” and of course, anything written by Jimmy Webb, which is a lot.

I looked up Jimmy Webb and never realized how young he was when he wrote these songs. He wrote Wichita Lineman when he was 22. I realize pop groups often wrote songs at younger ages but WL has a lot of depth for a 22 year old professional songwriter.

Jimmy was am Oklahoma transplant to So Cal as I think Glen was a TX transplant. Jimmy talked about his faith and how it improved his songwriting to avoid cliches and hackneyed phrases.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Webb

Jimmy probably could have been a big pop star on his own because of his good looks.

Oh yeah the wrecking crew played on everything. Only thing comparable is the Motown Band that played on most of the Motowan records. I forget the name of the “group.”
