I think you guys are being overly pessimistic. Rather than Argentina or Zimbabwe, I think we'll be seeing the Soviet disintegration model. Recall that the USSR was comprised of 'states' - one day the USSR existed & the next day it didn't. But the states were/are still around.

We already have operational state & local governments. The current fed.gov is simply an occupying criminal syndicate that has managed to seize the levers of top-level power. Take away fed.gov and we still have states. All they would have to do is get control of the various nukes and we'd be all set.

Once you take away fed.gov, then we'll really see regional differences emerge. I think it's obvious to all that the new power center would immediately become Texas, along with either a firm/loose confederation of other western and/or Southern states.

There is no need for any political action. The numbers don't lie - this thing is gonna blow in not too distant of a time frame regardless of who's in power and what policies are implemented.

The Ds are printing money - debasing the currency to maintain programs. If the Rs stopped printing money, programs would have to be cut. With 50% dependent on printing, I think people can imagine the reaction.

People will fall for the lies of a strongman who promises a return to prosperity and puts us in chains.

Curious about your rational. If you have the time a quick outline would be appreciated. Denninger has proven, I think, that almost all major banks are insolvent at the present time. Yet we continue to print money. Would not inflation be a more likely outcome?

My sister in Tidewater calls that area “Yankee Occupied Virginia.”

“More likely scenario - as inflation starts to go up and spending gets beyond control, responsible people like Paul Ryan are elected. (See Christie election in New Jersey - if they choose a responsible governor, the US as a whole can come to the same choice). Responsible reform of entitlements is still possible and long-term fiscal health is restored”

We have passed the point where responsible reform is really possible. Events are accelerating (for example, SS is in the red, years before it was supposed to). And there are so many big hits on the horizon (Europe, state budgets, CRE, etc), that any reform would be too little, too late.

“You will be surprised how adaptable people in hyperinflation environments. It won’t be Mad Max level.”

Agree - it takes an EMP (or worse) to get to that level. Argentina is the textbook case.

Bottom line - you better have A LOT of stuff stored up (I have 4 years worth of everything non-perishable that I can think of) and be ready to defend it (not as prepared there, but will go down with a fight).

All that "money" does from NoVa is perpetuate the welfare state. Let them keep it. Richmond wastes it anyway on "Cardinal Cards" and such. Starve the beast.....

“Everyone should give these out to a family member who voted for or supports Obama for a Christmas present this year. When they ask what it’s for, tell them it’ll be their new wallet before Obama’s done with America.”

NOW THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!!

We all drive in and show up in DC pushing wheelbarrows! What a STATEMENT!!

What happens when an economy collapses?

The answer is no one knows for sure, nor when, as you can tell by all the comments.

My observations of being in Mongolia after the Communist economy collapsed.

1) State provided housing was abandoned. There was no heat or utilities because the govt had no credit.

2) People moved out to the country, lived in yurts and burned cowpies for heat. No personal ownership of land since it was owned by the people, so it appeared to work.

3) Wealth. The new wealth became cattle and horses. A side note, when I was in Africa, people wore their wealth in gold jewelry.

4) All the state run businesses were abandoned and stripped. I visted a state run dairy farm. This was a large operation, with big buildings and facilities. completely stripped but the one chilling observation I had was looking up, and around to see it stripped and then looking down. I saw the gutter chain for removing manure was still there and full of manure. This told me that no one ran the chain the last time.............It happened FAST, it was not orderly.

5) I met one guy in a rural community who was putting together a local credit union. I asked him where he learned how to do that. He said he had one under communism but had to start another one. This told me that there were POCKETS OF FREEDOM.

6) If the United states had not stepped in to help (lots of English signs all over), mostly in the capital where the politicians were, it would have been utter chaos. THERE WILL BE NO ONE AVAILALBE TO HELP US .

7) They were rediscovering their heritage, learning about Genghis Khan. Their history had been suppressed under communism. Every other business was named after Genghis Khan.

There’s a reason they call it “Northern” Virginia. And there’s a reason they call it “Southern” Maryland.

We gave up a spot on the Potomac for some coast on the Patuxent and Chesapeake. That’s ‘cause we like oysters and steamed crabs.

Obama zombies are not very bright.

Unfortunately, because they all have the entitlement mindset, they will feel free to attempt to steal what is yours. Something everyone should keep in mind when preparing.

I think that everyone is bright (reasonably intelligent), just that they see things according to their logic, not ours. So what doesn't make sense to us looks stupid. But they are indeed doing what they feel is in their best interests according to their own thinking.

So... Trying to determine their motives and their mindset to understand their present and likely future actions, they do indeed have an entitlement mentality, and will feel entitleted to "do what they have to do" in order to survive. (This means stealing from you).

So... Preparing for social breakdown and the zombies to come around looking to devour you and yours would seem to be the best course of action on our part...
