Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 25, 2009 - temerarious
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary Word of the Day ^ | 11/25/2009

Posted on 11/25/2009 6:27:39 AM PST by VRWCmember

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

temerarious • \tem-uh-RAIR-ee-us\ • adjective

marked by temerity; rashly or presumptuously daring

Example sentence:

The brave explorer set off for the unplumbed depths of the dangerous cave with only a few supplies and one temerarious companion.

Did you know?
If you have guessed that "temerarious" may be related to the somewhat more common word "temerity," you are correct. "Temerarious" was borrowed into English in the early 16th century from Latin "temerarius," which in turn derives from Latin "temere," meaning "blindly" or" recklessly." "Temerity," which arrived in English over a century earlier, also derives from "temere"; another descendant is the rare word "intemerate" (meaning "pure" or "undefiled"). "Temere" itself is akin to Old High German "demar," Latin "tenebrae," and Sanskrit "tamas," all of which have associations with darkness.

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

I checked the parking lot and the CFO and I are the only senior staff at work today. We have a deal. She stays on her floor and I stay on mine and nobody gets hurt.

There were going to be a few people in today, but not me. And Friday there is virtually no one scheduled to be in. I have 4 briefs due on Friday, got them all done and out before i left yesterday.

He’s correct if it means “nefarious”

Once Election Day passed
So sad, else it would be hilarious

The bubble around the Kennedy's CINO faith has burst with the death of Teddy, and now they are taking the heat they have always deserved over their stand towards abortion and other issues where faith and politics intersect. Bishop Tobin told bill oreilly last night that if anyone's job interferes directly with their faith and relationship with God, that they should QUIT. bravo to him.

I eschew the Black Friday shopping. I can always find better prices online and I do not have to rub elbows with the germ-laden public. Just this morning I paid $99 for a copper risotto pan that Williams Sonoma has for $189.95.

3 weeks ago I bought a pair of Piloti Spyder Driving shoes that retails for $75, online for $29.95.

xsteen is home and will want to shop, like i said, it’s more the sport of being out there than finding deals and buying stuff. I have already begun the online shopping. we will go at odarkthirty and be home probably by breakfast time.
what is far worse is xsboy’s hockey game today which is up in Laurel, MD. That is up the I 95N corridor, primary route out of town, on the busiest travel day of the year. IT’s going to take forever. He is leaving shortly because one of the hockey moms who lives in that area has invited the varsity boys over for a pasta dinner, since she lives close to the rink. I made several batches of cookies this AM to send with him. Xshub will come home from the ofc and take the girls and i up to the game later this aft.

well, day 3 of doggie diahrea.......am calling the vet’s ........the stench is horrific. had that early morning squad call so I just got back up and had cleanup duty. oh, happy day.

glad xsteen is home safe....and MO looks perfectly presentable......but dear God in heaven...three weeks of labor intensive sewing to make it? the lives of the rich and famous have arrived at 1600 Penn Ave. I guess I am not surprised that it took that much effort to make her presentable. ;)

I”m not in a spending mood yet.... not hitting stores this weekend either. That is one perk of being a stay at home Mom - I can shop when others are at work.... and unlike XS, I don’t enjoy it as a sport, although that is a hilarious comment!

Temerario in español is a noun that means bold. There is a Mexican musical group called Los Temerarios.

"Tamas" in Sanskrit is used a lot by the Hindus. It is associated with darkness, but is commonly translated as ignorance. "Tamaso maa jyotir gamaya" is a line from the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad that means "lead us from the darkness of ignorance into understanding."

/pedantry
