I'm Sorry for the graphic Stalin Era Photo But They lived on the hope the Joe Stalin would save them while he was robbing them blind.
A departed friend of mine grew up under the soviet boot. It is just the way I feel.
I would rather die resisting the iron heel of communism than be slowly strangled by the velvet glove of Obama style socialism.

I read somewhere that is a misquote. Supposedly it was actually “wine”, not beer.

In any event drinking alcohol does not bring happiness either. It dulls it.

I can’t see anything but EVIL emanating from this man!
To: deannadurbin
That’s because you aren’t drinking heavily enough.

Good Lord, what a horrible photo (the bottom one).
I’m with you, I too would rather die resisting.

"At my first admission into this printing-house I took to working at press, imagining I felt a want of the bodily exercise I had been us'd to in America, where presswork is mix'd with composing. I drank only water; the other workmen, near fifty in number, were great guzzlers of beer. On occasion, I carried up and down stairs a large form of types in each hand, when others carried but one in both hands. They wondered to see, from this and several instances, that the Water-American, as they called me, was stronger than themselves, who drank strong beer! We had an alehouse boy who attended always in the house to supply the workmen. My companion at the press drank every day a pint before breakfast, a pint at breakfast with his bread and cheese, a pint between breakfast and dinner, a pint at dinner, a pint in the afternoon about six o'clock, and another when he had done his day's work. I thought it a detestable custom; but it was necessary, he suppos'd, to drink strong beer, that he might be strong to labor. I endeavored to convince him that the bodily strength afforded by beer could only be in proportion to the grain or flour of the barley dissolved in the water of which it was made; that there was more flour in a pennyworth of bread; and therefore, if he would eat that with a pint of water, it would give him more strength than a quart of beer. He drank on, however, and had four or five shillings to pay out of his wages every Saturday night for that muddling liquor; an expense I was free from. And thus these poor devils keep themselves always under."

I was Apolitical until I visited Czechoslovakia
in January 1970.
I was self reliant and very well traveled.
I thought a person who was educated and hard
working would have a good life.

Nonsense. My happiness comes from the Lord Jesus and my family. I don’t need alcohol at all.
To: deannadurbin
WHat’s “need” got to do with it?

You tell me. You’re the one who suggested I couldn’t be happy unless I was drunk.
To: deannadurbin
No I didn’t. Maybe you are drunk right now. Maybe you are a mean drunk.

this is an internet forum....grow a thicker skin instead of threatening to run to an admin and report ‘abuse’.
To: KevLibertarian
So the Lord Jesus would be pleased to see men browbeating women on an internet forum just because they mention they don’t drink alcohol?
Think not.
Why don’t you become a gentleman conservative instead of me ‘growing a thicker skin’ as a Christian lady. I like my skin the way it is, thank you. :)
There is no excuse for rudeness. It shows bad character. The “report abuse” function is there to let the administrator know when someone becomes insulting toward another freeper. It serves its purpose and I will use it against anyone who is a creep or a heel toward fellow freepers.
Including YOU. :)
To: mamelukesabre
Sorry, guess you don’t meet any nice Christian ladies in your own life so you are blind to recognize one when you do. :)
Toodles, loser.

the ‘Lord Jesus’ has nothing to do with it.Neither does alcohol. And the “Christian lady” thing is irrelevant too.You seem to feel it’s okay for YOU to toss around taunts and insults to people who disagree with you(’scum’, RINO’, “grow a pair”, etc.), but boy, when someone hands it back to you it’s tattle time. That’s my point. I think it’s perfectly fine for you to snap back at people who annoy you, because I find it amusing. Your wanting to sic an admin on them because your sense of propriety is offended is something else entirely...it’s kind of ridiculous, in fact.
Amazing! After writing all that I STILL feel like a ‘gentleman conservative’! Perhaps when you report me the admins will set me straight.
To: deannadurbin
oh, and you weren’t ‘browbeaten’, either....you poor victim.
To: KevLibertarian
The Lord Jesus has EVERYTHING to do with it.
He was always kind and gentle to women. Always. He should be your example too, unless you are a Christian hypocrite.
I made a simple comment that I don’t drink alcohol and some turned against me in a nasty way. Sorry, in my book that means that people who would object to a sober woman instead of a drunk woman have character flaws beyond my power to fix. Only the Lord Jesus can do that.
Toodles!

I am neither a Christian nor a hypocrite...and jesus was VERY kind to the Syrio-Phoenician woman, right? I think he referred to her, as a non-jew, as a ‘dog’. Perhaps she was drunk, but we’ll never know for sure.
