It is not just hand-shaking. Think about things like door knobs, railings, shopping carts, etc. When one of my sonswas 15, he tested positive for TB & had to have the entire course of meds for TB treatment. We are not foreign and had never left the country. I was told that with all the world travel, he could have picked it up putting hands on railing, escalator, etc. at a shopping center. Interesting tho, when we took him the the infection control specialist, he had to come in a special entrance, wear mask and gloves. They were not taking any chances & I wish our government would exercise more caution on borders/in airports until we really know what we are dealing with. That said, I am not panicking, but I am not counting on the government to protect me—they will politicize it and use it to their advantage regardless.

The Swine Flu of 1918 started out weak and after the first outbreak (in Kansas) it lay dormant for awhile.
It reappeared and gained strength as it mutated into a fierce killer.

Sorry for highlighting that phrase. But a lot of people have been affected by just that malady in recent years.

a. College students on spring break
b. Families with school age children on spring break
c. Cinco de Mayo

None are as severe an the Mexican cases.
Infectious period typically begins a day prior to onset of symptoms through day five or so of illness. Thus, there are people who may exhibit no outward flu symptoms that can be contagious too.
Best to practice common sense cleanliness our mothers taught us...frequent handwashing; discourage children (and adults who act like children) from biting fingernails, picking the nose, rubbing eyes, etc.
I can’t believe they haven’t stopped all air traffic from Mexico. Only one person on a plane and it is wide spread!
One of the articles I read said they didn't want to further harm the economy if they could help it.
I just checked with my source and so far no re routing.
Is there any way to predict how big this will ultimately be or do we have to wait and see?
Also would not common sense indicate travel warnings from the state dept. for travel to at least Mexico City if not all of Mexico?

No, there’s not. It depends on what the virus does. The travel to/from Mexico is an interesting question. There is so much that I have to wonder if the “horse hasn’t already left the barn”, so to speak. I also wonder if there hasn’t been quite a few cases here that we simply didn’t identify. We will certainly see more cases identified over the next week, but again, we could have had many cases over the last couple of weeks that were not identified, particularly if they were mild.
Wal-Mart in Carson City was sold out of filter masks in the paint department as of an hour ago. Home Depot had plenty.
