Works on most any system. Interchangeable, and portable.
On eBay, do a search to filter out SAATA and it will show you only IDE or ATA drives.
Also, there are adapters available for short money that will plug on to the back of an SATA drive that will allow you to interface it with an IDE/ATA 40 pin cable.
Update:
My machine had two drives, a 120 on IDE0 and an 80 on IDE1.
The primary would boot W2K, with boot loader, I had WINXP set up on the secondary.
Picked up a 160 used Maxtor for thirty bucks, and wanted to swap out the 80. But I was worried that I would never be able to boot XP again, wondering about the MBR, the partition table, didn’t think XP would be happy if he came up and was on a totally different drive.
But I copied the 80 to the 160, then pulled the 80 out and put the 160 in as slave.
First boot I started W2K and it came up fine.
Second boot when it asked, I said WINXP and it came up fine also.
So now I have an 80 that I think I might try to make an external out of or something...
BTW, the guy at RE-PC said as far as he knows, ALL DRIVE MANUFACTURERS have stopped making the old style IDE ATA drives and now make the SATA. So if you think you will ever need a drive replacement, better get on the ball now while you still can!
