...Oh and just let me add, why are you posting here instead of worshiping your false messiah on this historic day?

Much worse. My business is down by 50% and my wife’s company is moving towards commission only.

Six months ago I would have said yes, the future was bright and I was economically better off. Now I’m facing unemployment coming up in the next several months and I haven’t had a nibble on a replacement job after several months of looking, which is not surprising at my age. Meanwhile every source of savings and alternative income from second job/home business has also gone away. Naturally I’m scared sick. No, I am not better off anymore, and when I look back on the choices I’ve made I can’t see anything I might have done differently.

Two kids. A blessing.

Having to move from warm, Right of Center, Texas back to liberal frigid hellhole Minnesota to be nearer to family? A curse.

Made smart investments thanks to a free market. Blessing.

Seen those same investments take hit after hit the last two years because of a liberal controlled Congress? A curse.

I seem to be in a bit of a balance trending negative...

We are better off as far as day to day living, we have more than enough to make ends met, all our children have graduated from college and are supporting themselves.
We are worse off as far as our retirement investments go, they have lost about half their value and retirement is coming very soon. We have been through stock market busts before but I am worried that all the government spending is going to make things worse, much worse.

I have to say no but it has nothing to do with W or any politician. All of us are older and hopefully wiser regardless.

Praise God Yes!
I’m about to turn 75 (in March)and give thanks for my life, my country and my president for the last 8 years. For his unwavering and firm stand when we were attacked nearly 8 years ago, in a way never even entered our minds.
Our 2 sons, and our daughter, and their families are stable, and our grandchildren are healthy and blessed, and my wife and I celebrated our 50th anniversity last March.

No, I'm worse off since the democrats took over congress. Lost my job, husband forced to retire, sold our condo in Dearborn for 40K less than we paid. Everything was good until then. Portends the future to come.

Yes, except that as of today, I grieve for my country and fear for my children in a way I did not think was possible.

"No, My company is in trouble and the country is bankrupt. It is beyond me how anyone could say we are better off...my 401 K is in the toilet...I just take it one day at time."

By President Reagan's standard, I sure as hell am not better off!

Yep. I don’t wait for government handouts. Obamabots will do nothing but have their hands out.

I am most certainly better off than 8 years ago. I make better money and I’m debt free now. My success has had little if anything to do with the economic policies of the last 8 years. My wife and I did it without the help of anyone. Most for the credit goes to my wife for being disciplined with our income. She’d be a great CFO for any company out there.

This question comes around every election year and my answer remains the same ... yes, but I give no credit to our government for that no matter who’s in charge. I was better off after Reagan, better of after GHW Bush, better off after Clinton, and better off after W Bush. I give credit to God and to working hard. I’ve been blessed with a great wife and kids, a good job in a stable (so far) industry. And, Lord willing, I’ll be better off after 4 years of 0 too.

No I am not. But I expect to be well of or rich in third year after the economy turns around. The business plans have been developed and they will work.

Can I change my answer?

Yes, I am better off. I have no 401k, I invested it in my business and basically lost it all. Money is tough to come buy and we stand to lose everything over the next few weeks. Our ministry (affordable housing) crashed due to the the credit crunch and due to my wife and partner breaking both legs in a fall and it has been a spectacularly tough two years.

But...on October 21st, 2001 , Jesus came into my life suddenly and my new life has been rich beyond belief.

The comment about becoming well off still stands. I will be opening my own brokerage early this year and I expect to do very well. The company will tithe and additionally will help support a good friend who is doing spectacular evangelical work in India, Zambia and the Phillipines. On a fairly recent trip he and his assistants baptised 40,000 people in one week and I expect that I will be with him on many trips in the future.

I want a piece of that action. I want to help do the same for others that Jesus has done for me. Most of the money coming out of that business will go towards Jesus’s work.

Yes. I built onto my home and got my mortage for 10 years at 5%. I made 20% more money cause I worked more. Best earnings in my life. Next year will be better as I am going to work even more. Now if taxes will just not go up and I do not have to end up working for a socialist medical system things will remain good.

Yes. Paid off the house, daughter finished college, bought two new cars for wife & daughter, still have my job and the daughter also has a job.

I have many new FRiends here, met a cousin living about one mile from me at church. I’d hadn’t seen her since the late 60s or early 70s.

I am getting close to retirement, so that is a big blessing for me with this new PIC (poser in chief).

I am better off now than I was eight years ago despite the Gov’t. I just pray that I can say the same eight years from now.
