I thought this was an American Idol thread. I didn't know it was your mental health time out. LOL!

I didn't know I was interupting your therapy. Most people on FR know their comments can be replied to by those who diagree. That is the nature of things here.

This is the only thread I've seen where a therapy group doesn't want disagreement. You should post a "Group in Session" sign.

OK..Possibly I was too harsh..it wasn’t my intent. Just that we’ve been doing this for several years now..we do all sort of know each other..and while we do cover a wide range of topics..it is a sort of escapism for us...and while of course your comments are welcome, well dude..they did seem a tad snippy..so if I may suggest, do come back..jump in, but dial it back just a tad..and you’ll enjoy yourself immensely. YOuy also must realize that for most of us..well, watching the screen AND reading the thread, AND typing responses at the same time..well...we’re all not that good at multitasking..

I posted earlier on the thread, I think two weeks ago. I answered a lot of wild card questions for people and commented on the singers.

I noticed this week there was a lot of "he's so gay" and I thought other irrelevant comments. I summarized in one comment and got flamed by a small group of posters.

I'm not so shy and I won't let people posting false information drive me off a thread. skate and kitten, and silent could have stopped at any time, as I had nothing more to say, except to respond to their personal attacks.

I suggest a chat thread for those in the inner sanctum who don't want to risk that someone who is not here to be their best bud will come in and say one of their posts didn't make sense.

Then I was accused of being a woman who is a Prince fan, because apparently I signed up at the wrong time. Foloowed to a call to mods to investigate me (you can see where that went). We'll I've been here much longer than most here, except you.

I will continue to point out when people who attack me do so with false information. However, if they don't address me, the war is over. I will respond to show opinion and post my own.

Best wishes and thanx for the civil post.

I noticed this week there was a lot of "he's so gay" and I thought other irrelevant comments.

I'm not one to get involved in disputes between posters, but I will disagree that some of those comments are irrelevant.

American Idol is not, and has never been, a "singing contest", no matter how many times they try to say that.

It is a marketing competition, where the contestants are trying to "sell" themselves to a voting (and eventually music-buying) public. Singing well, of course, is a part of that -- a very important part -- but all aspects of the contestant's image matter. Only those with the "complete package" (or reasonably close to it) are going to do well, and it isn't always (or often) that the best actual singer wins.

So look, style, originality, and the ability to connect with the audience matter. A lot. A contestant who comes across as "so gay" has an image problem, and that's going to hurt them in the "marketing" aspect of the competition (and in their future singing career, if any) even if they are the best singer from a purely objective basis.

I agree, but some of us may want to discuss singing ability and not tatoos or gaydar readings. I commented about the pianist/singer who was featured last night. She whined her way through the contest last year before her lack of ability caught up to here. I usually respond to those who think she was the best singer.

In the end it's the difference between britney spears who doesn't have the chops or Christina Agiuilara who will be around much longer.

Everything you said is so true. Often the judges talk about the ‘whole package’. Gayness does matter. If they don’t believe it, maybe they should ask Aiken.

I would have liked Megan Corkrey in the 3rd or 4th spot. I still would like to hear another song or two from her to see how she would sound.

Thank you! She has a unique voice, is VERY camera friendly, and has a Novel tat on her arm that would take weeks to figure out just WTF it read, not even to mention the contemplation which would have to take place about it!

She is made for celebrity, maybe not AI, but there's something about something there.

I think they should sing a different song each time. No more repeats. Some of these people sang songs that they either auditioned with or sang during hollyweird week.

By the way, I meant to add that I think Megan will get a wild cars spot.

I’m not exactly sure how they are going to do the wild cards. Sometimes it sounds like they can bring back someone from any point, including pre top 36, which would be stupid, because if they would good enough for the top 36 then they should have been there already.

Interesting thread you got here. I'm still on the ping list even though I don't participate live...

I will go on record as saying I LOVE ADAM. I think he's got a great voice and is quite entertaining. His looks are creepy but it gets him noticed.

Leave Adam alone!!!!!

My one piece of advise for all the ladies in the competition - Never go sleeveless on national tv. It will only lead to elimination (or future elimination Allison).

Each Idol judge will pick two top-36 contestants for Thursday’s wild card round

http://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/archives/american_idol_8/2009_Feb_26_more_wild_card

The rumors, speculation, and contradictory information about American Idol 8’s wild card round has been cleared up, mostly.

During Thursday’s results show, Simon Cowell said, “We’re going to bring back a selection of people who we think deserve a second shot—maybe they chose the wrong songs. I think we’re all in agreement, maybe a couple even from tonight you’re going to see again.”

Earlier, after talking to a show rep, MTV News reported that “each judge can pick two contestants from the top 36 — from which everyone is eligible — and those eight (or possibly nine) singers will perform a song on the one-hour March 5 show, with three advancing into the top 12. … The same rules apply as during the audition phases, with majority picks winning the day and judge Simon Cowell casting the tie-breaking vote should there be a 2-2 deadlock.”

That will all happen next Thursday. And yes, skeptical people who have e.mailed me from anonymous e.mail addresses, the wild card episode (singular) does air next week, the same week as the third and final semi-final round. The semi-final performance episode will air Tuesday, results come Wednesday, and the wild card round airs Thursday—with performances, judging, and selection apparently taking place in a single hour. Crazy. Then again, I bet they’ll still find time for some filler.

I found the article that I saw earlier that made the wild cards a bit confusing.

'American Idol' aims to enliven its upcoming live shows

Simon Cowell's critical eye goes beyond American Idol singers. He says this season's first live outing was "a bit flat."

Last Tuesday's show "didn't quite gel. There were some audio issues. The lighting felt too light, too daytime," the Idol judge says. "We know what went wrong and what we're going to do to fix it."

'IDOL' CHATTER: Follow all the action in our blog

Last week's singers don't get off the hook, either. Cowell praised some performers, calling Alexis Grace a welcome "dark horse," but says "there are better singers to come" as 12 compete again tonight (Fox, 8 ET/PT) and Tuesday.

Overall, Cowell is happy with Season 8, saying changes to the semifinal structure, including the return of judges' wild-card picks, will yield better finalists. In next Thursday's wild-card round, the judges bring back eight or nine singers — not necessarily just from the semifinals — and pick three to round out the Top 12. "I think when we put the 12 together, there will be more personality, more interest and just more diversity," says Cowell, who wouldn't specify standouts.

Back to actually discussing Idol, unlike what nuf wants to do: Betcha tatoo girl is a wildcard, along with Kai?

I am hoping Novel Tat Arm is a wilcard because I really like her presence, She stands out even without the tat!

Even though I don't even like Amy Winehouse, Megan is jumpin off on her singing style and it makes her interesting to listen to, and watch.

BTW, she's also quite easy on the eyes.

I have a couple of questions.

If they are going to pick 8 or 9 out of the remaining 36, do those 8 or 9 know in advance so that they can prepare a new song or will they sing the same bad choice that no one liked before?
