What a friggen joke. Francoma shows no feel for the game in even sending Beckett back out there tonight. He and Farell need to be slapped for how they managed this game.
Do they get how demoralizing it is for a team to battle back with 3 HRs only to see the manager leave the starter in who is clearly not getting it done?

He gave him a chance to get the win. Gotta get thru 5. Beckett deserves a chance to win.

He’s not right. The velocity just wasn’t there and he was wearing down even before the start of the inning. Should have put Byrd in there after the 4th inning for long relief purposes.

I’ll be surprised if the rays can hold this little lead.

Yup. This game. Rays bullpen will implode.

At best he can hope is a ND. 4 and 1/3 innings with 8 ERs is a seriously piss poor performance.

Intriguing comment about the Rays player who faces red and black stamped yellow tennis balls at 140mph in the batting cage.....eventually calling out color, then number, then spin.
When asked why he does that he says “it slows the game down for me”.
Ted Williams once said that he could pick up the script stamped on the ball and pick up the spin. Nobody’s hit .400...so who are we to call him a liar? LOL!

Got it. thanks.
The ‘97 Orioles went wire to wire...1st place from Opening Day to the end.
They had a .236/.636 (BA/SLG} hitting shortstop named Mike Bordick.
The statheads on usenet crucified him. He had taken over Ripken’s position and they were not happy.
Bordick holds the Orioles’ record for fielding...not Ripken.
He also was named to the All Star team in 2000.

ellsbury is hitting leadoff though and if he’s not going to get on base then he’s a major liability.
If I was Francona I’d move Drew back to leadoff (walks/OBP) and push ellsbury to 8th. Losing Lowell has certainly hurt them this postseason

I haven’t followed the Rays that closely.
But you’re right. A lead-off hitter in the lineup should be productive.

LOL! Well, I am old enough to recall their glory days. Earl Weaver made them champions and contenders for years.
But, yes....they’ve been a joke since a little kid named Jeffrey Maier reached over the railing in Right Field in Yankee Stadium.

The Rays are mostly a team of .270 hitters. Pena a regular season .247 hitter is acting like coming of Ted Williams - it won’t last.
The Red Sox should have started anyone but Beckett and the the rays don’t score more than 5 in this game.

im impressed by the sox’s small ball this season
