We lived in Roswell at the time, although I was very small. One of my aunts was a nurse at the hospital and was good friends with one of the ambulance attendees. They both swore that the story was true. Aunt’s friend was on one of the ambulances that was sent to pick them up. Everyone that was involved in any way was sworn to silence by officials. My aunt told what she knew before she died.

The military never set out to cook up an alien ufo crash story to materialize, but when it got started by some people with overactive imaginations, they soon realized it would make for a great cover story. So they tested it to see if this could be useful in the future during the cold war and to see how long the ufo crash story would hold up. Once the story got out, the military basically only had to deny it to keep the story going, which fit perfectly with the paranoia that some people have about government coverups. The military did such a good job at generating a cover story through denial that when the true story was finally revealed, some people still didn’t believe it. Even now 60 years later the alleged cover-up story is still going strong because the original people who were tricked into beliveing a ufo crashed have convinced the next generation and so on. These deathbed statements just keep adding more fuel to the paranoia.

I lived near Roswell at the time and was also very young. One of the generals from the base who lived near us suddenly "adopted" a couple of kids. We all thought there was something a bit odd about them, but we could never prove anything.

Interesting account there, since my uncle mentioned listening to the talk radio on Roswell then, and how they were told to stop reporting the original story, or lose their ‘Radio License’...Makes me think of the ‘Fairness Doctrine’ thing coming back up, and the first reports from the Senate were that talk radio was spreading mis-information about the bill....I Wonder....

What the story about Roswell would be today if FreeRepublic existed during the Roswell Incident?

Another witness in Roswell said in a death bed confession : “they weren’t green”. The UFO liars-deniers are what fueled the X Files series for so long. There are none so blind as those who will not see.
