If the Senate decides to consider new impeachment trial witnesses and documents next week, Sen. Josh Hawley plans to try and force votes on everyone from Adam Schiff to Joe Biden.

The Missouri Republican is preparing to file subpoena requests for witnesses and documents that Democrats and Republicans alike won't want to vote on. Hawley's strategy harmonizes with plans from GOP Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Rand Paul of Kentucky to force votes to hear from Hunter Biden, the former vice president's son who was on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma

Subpoenas = Delay
Let the defense make their case, ask questions, then vote to dismiss.

This is the money quote:

“If the Senate decides to consider new impeachment trial witnesses and documents next week, Sen. Josh Hawley plans to try and force votes on everyone from Adam Schiff to Joe Biden.”

If the Democrats(plus Romney et al) vote to call in Bolton etc, then Josh is going to force votes to call in Hunter, Schiff, whistle blower etc. It's a no brainer.

My other thought is what if the only witnesses to appear would be the ones the Dems wanted and none or a few at best that the GOP requests?

I don’t know that this would add anything and the Dems would think this advances their beliefs/accusations.

The DS has it’s ace in the hole, Lindsey Graham, to stop this. Linda voting against Biden testifying gives a dozen or so other DS RINOs cover to derail this.

This is for the benefit of one person, and one person only.

That would be the one US Senator who has been working to take the votes of a couple more Senators, Republicans, with him to the other side and to call witnesses... Witnesses that the Democrats want, of course.

Now of course we all know who this sorry backstabbing opportunistic bastard is, so there's no need to mention his name. Just sorry backstabbing opportunistic bastard will work just fine.

"Yo Milt! (Ooops... sorry...) If you want to start dragging witnesses in here and drag this out until the election you better be sure... we're about to help you out with that plank in your eye."

the still-unnamed whistleblower who reported Trump’s July call with the Ukrainian president

**************

Think if you will about the absurdity of NOT wanting to call the so-called whistleblower as a witness. Where else, except in the hot air factory of the U.S. senate, would an investigation not want to examine the very beginning of a case?

How can you understand something without looking at the root cause or impetus for it? This should be a no brainer. If no one else is called the senate should at least want to hear how it all started. But then again, perhaps they don’t really want to.

I agree, but someone is bluffing here. Perhaps the best way to get Biden on the stand is to you’re against it (as in Linda), and have the Dems drop their guard.

...but likely more hope than reality on my part. Anyway, we’ll soon find out.

That would be the point at which talk about someone’s head on a pike would cease to be just idle chatter.

Todd put this weak loser on his show for a reason. He knew what to expect and Braun delivered. Mitt would have been to obvious.

Witnesses are a trap.

If there’s a trap anywhere the GOP is sure to step into it. Its absolutely amazing how often they step into the jaws of defeat. Such repreated self-destruction can only be by design.

Looks like beltway theater to me here. All Dems will vote no. Burr and Alexander are retiring. That’s two more no’s. Then they only need two more I believe. The Never Trump bench is deep in the Senate. The Dems will have no problem getting votes to defeat anything Hawley or Rand try.

I have seen Braun talk the same schiff on Fox. He seems like a dick.

Maybe this nutless wonder should remember who brought him to the party
—————————————————————————————————

He was a Dem up until 2012...that should tell us all we need to know about his character. Unfortunately, we have to wait until 2014 for Indianans to primary him.

The GOP want this over. There will be no witnesses.

Geeze, I hope you’re right. But with the Republicavians one never knows. I would not be willing to bet money on them not caving in in some way that benefits the Democrats.

Senators like Ernst and Collins are suddenly talking tough. That leads me to believe they are getting ready to acquit and are already justifying their votes. Ratcliffe expects this all wrapped up next week and it is increasingly looking like the Senate plan is no witnesses and a vote to acquit.

The Never Trump bench is deep in the Senate.

It is indeed. Trump has few supporters in the senate which has done absolutely nothing to support of defend him. No hearings, no investigations, no witnesses called, no nothing.

Make no mistake, the GOP resents Trump the Outsider.

All 53 Republicans voted to defeat Schumer’s attempts to call in Democrat witnesses at the start of the trial on Tuesday. And they defeated the Democrats TEN times out of ten.

I seriously think they could have rested their case after yesterdays testimony

I want to hear more about the Bidens in Ukraine and how the Ukrainian hoax started. This is a political trial and I want to hear a full-throated defense of the President. Then we can vote to acquit.

Let the defense make their case, ask questions, then vote to dismiss.

Vote to acquit, not to dismiss. Acquittal = not guilty. Dismissal = claims by the Rats that the fix was in.

There’s no evidence Biden used his position as vice president to benefit his son’s work with Burisma

Couldn’t get by without saying this
