Trump base latches onto ‘Q’ internet conspiracy cult
The Seattle Times ^ | August 2, 2018 | Marc Fisher and Isaac Stanley-Becker

Energized by the internet persona Q’s complex web of conspiracy notions about the forces aligned against President Donald Trump, Q’s followers have spread virally online and now, in real life too, forming a movement known as QAnon.

From somewhere in the vast and mysterious “deep state,” a dissident agent rises up to give the people cryptic clues about how their heroic president will push back the forces of evil and make America great again. The renegade informant is known only as “Q,” and if he actually exists, it’s not as a character in a movie, but somewhere in the Washington, D.C., bureaucracy.

Energized by Q’s complex web of conspiracy notions about the forces aligned against President Donald Trump, Q’s followers have spread virally online and now, in real life too, forming a movement known as QAnon that is making itself visible at Trump’s rallies and other public gatherings.

QAnon is the latest in a string of conspiracy ideas that take hold of the public’s imagination in times of social stress and technological change. And QAnon is something new, a leaderless popular movement made up of people who believe in no one and therefore are willing to believe almost anything.

To believers, Q is a pseudonym for a well-placed U.S. government agent who is posting online distress messages and bits of intel, known as “breadcrumbs,” in an effort to save the country — and Trump — from hostile forces within the government. Q’s missives started appearing last October on 4chan, the mostly anonymous website where fringe ideas incubate and blossom....

Well it’s certainly not “some kid in his mom’s basement.”

Exactly, that has been ruled out long ago. There have been way too many proofs and pics close to President Trump where it could only be people on the inside doing it.

BTW, if anyone wants to watch some of the proofs here, Praying Medic on Youtube did a good video on it here: Q Anon Proofs - July 9 (Long Version)

said, "some kid in his parent’s basement"

that isn't possible. Though it could be false hopes or it could be some what what they claim. Helping people spread information. Such as John W. Huber. I haven't heard anything out side Qanon about Huber. Huber reports directly to Sessions.

That's what the Q foolery is for. It's an effort to associate us all with low-IQ, narcissistic foolery.

As far as I am concerned, this Q crap is just unconfirmed noise in a very noisy system and not worth much. I does prove that some people will buy into anything, however vague or unsubstantiated, that plays to their wishful thinking or imagination - like grown-up “make believe” that they are part of some super-secret spy ring. Perhaps someone can make and market a copy of Captain Midnight’s Ovaltine Decoder Ring with the letter Q on it.

Does Self-Love or Self-Hate Predict Conspiracy Beliefs? Narcissism, Self-Esteem, and the Endorsement of Conspiracy Theories
SAGE Journals
Social and Personality Psychology Consortium

Aleksandra Cichocka, Marta Marchlewska, Agnieszka Golec de Zavala First Published November 13, 2015
Abstract
Across three studies, we examined the role of self-evaluation in predicting conspiracy beliefs. Previous research linked the endorsement of conspiracy theories to low self-esteem. We propose that conspiracy theories should rather be appealing to individuals with exaggerated feelings of self-love, such as narcissists, due to their paranoid tendencies. In Study 1, general conspiracist beliefs were predicted by high individual narcissism but low self-esteem. Study 2 demonstrated that these effects were differentially mediated by paranoid thoughts, and independent of the effects of collective narcissism. Individual narcissism predicted generalized conspiracist beliefs, regardless of the conspiracy theories implicating in-group or out-group members, while collective narcissism predicted belief in out-group but not in-group conspiracies. Study 3 replicated the effects of individual narcissism and self-esteem on the endorsement of various specific conspiracy theories and demonstrated that the negative effect of self-esteem was largely accounted for by the general negativity toward humans associated with low self-esteem.

“....Never Trumper or Democrat playing people.”

I believe that Q is exactly that. A real disinfo operation and yes it is going to be embarrassing for many when the truth comes out.

Ditto. And just because some ‘Q’ nuts (and who is to say they are not liberal / Democrat plants?) hold up signs at a Trump rally is meaningless.

I am a reader of the Q stuff.

I started being skeptical when I started seeing folks quoting “chapter and verse” of the posts. It simply made me uncomfortable.

That said, a cult has its followers give up their identity for the cult leader. For Walking Dead fans, it is the “I am Negan” thing. That is not happening with Q.

The whole intent of the Q group is to do th research and connect dots. This is where lots of people get derailed. Connecting dots is difficult without context. I see a lot of talk that simply spins out of control because of this. People are connecting “A” to “D” without the context of B or C.

So, it’s interesting and fun to watch. But you need to keep your hands firmly on the sides of the rabbit hole to keep from being pulled too deeply.

“All this for a larp?”

Michael Avenatti doesn’t think it’s a larp. He bit, hard.

So there’s that.

So, I’m going to take the middle position and say “I don’t know.” Of course I want it to be true, but politics has left me feeling like Charlie Brown kicking the football and I’m gunshy. So, here’s an honest question (simply because I don’t read every post): how long until we find out? How long until we know? I thought I had read something was going to give by the end of July and I also thought I remembered something was going to happen before midterms, but again, I don’t read every post. So-to the best of your knowledge, what’s the timeline for determining if Q is real or some incredible hoax?

This whole investigation isn’t about Russia, Russia, Russia...It’s about the Democrats covering their tracks, activating smoke screens and laying down slippery spots for their pursuers as they develop additional evasive maneuvers in their attempts to escape American justice. Voter fraud like we have never before seen or imagined is the only thing that makes sense anymore and it should be no surprise that Trump won anyway because now everybody knows that back then, we didn’t necessarily know how rigged the system really was.

I don’t pay any attention to “Q”.

I take my “Q” from the President who pays attention to Q by acknowledging his followers who are in attendance at his rallies. It’s typical Trump slight of hand, trolling all doubters. Watch his rallies and see for yourself.

When I was a kid some cousin bought a ouiji board to a family reunion. The older cousins were dutifully trying to conjour some Oracle out of it... late at night, lights on low the teens tried their best... nothing. Then I got on it and hocus-pocus’d the board with a stream of fantastical BS that totally freaked them out. I think my cousin Marsha might have wet herself in total fear... I was in total brat mode... and only 10. I know Keith was on to me, but he was digging the show.

And that’s what I think of Q...

Yes, there’s that.

And that precipitated and triggered Q going MSM Mainstream.

And it happened in July.

As Q led us to expect.

So there’s that.

"That's what the Q foolery is for. It's an effort to associate us all with low-IQ, narcissistic foolery."

If that's what you think, then you don't really understand real "education" and how it happens. Indoctrination and rote learning is not real education. The difference in that and real learning is immersion of the students into the subject matter to a degree where they begin to think for themselves to reach conclusions.

When I first heard about Q back around the first of the year, there were two quotes that stood out and convinced me to listen to more .....

"Q opened lines of communication without MSM consent or supervision and for awhile - none of the swamp even knew it. From the first posts to the present, people have begun researching the questions he\they ask and it has released a flood of citizen research that has revealed an oceanic swamp of corruption worldwide. He doesn’t tell us what to think, he asks us to think and research. Q has said that if all swamp details were known to the public, it would destabilize the country (civil unrest, trauma) The so-called "elites" lifestyle of lies and perversion is just too much for normal, decent citizens to absorb. So instead, the questions direct people to do their own research, find their own resources and continue until they feel they have enough information upon which to understand what the heck is going on. In this manner, the risk of overwhelming the public with massive downloads of hard to hear news is reduced. People absorb at their own pace. By the time the media is faced with the truth and tries to spin it, the citizens will have their own research to help them decide what’s true."

"Q’s style is very much like the age old tradition of the Socratic method. Based on the same principle. A cryptic message forces the audience into active analysis, which leads to the process of finding their own conclusions. One of the most powerful methods of persuasion."
