OK fine, I’m “wrong”. I make the call on what extracurricular activities I spend my money on, not some media or political schmuck.

Excellent point. I note that in your example, JFK and the Democrats would have acted in a determined and definitive fashion to protect themselves without letting any doctrinal quibbles restrain or delay them. In contrast, conservatives and Republicans seem perplexed as to what to do and uncertain if there is any justification for defending their interests and rights.

As a general rule, the Left abandons all pacifist sentiment to defend itself, while the supposed warmonger Right seems willing to roll over and die when its rights and interests are under assault by businessmen. Trump, of course, is a magnificent exception and fights even when conservatives prefer to flee battle like the French Army did when they were up against against invading Nazi tanks.

Trump, of course, is a magnificent exception. We cannot do without the man: he fights.

“Trump, of course, is a magnificent exception. We cannot do without the man: he fights.”

But he is only one man. In the same way that a parent’s legacy is ultimately defined by the success of his/her kids, Trump’s legacy will be defined by whether other Republicans, and the party, develop a BACKBONE, and whether they show that they can fight on the same level as the Democrats. We’re certainly not there yet, but once in a while there’s a comment or two from some Republican that shows he’s ‘getting it’ a bit.

The issue has nothing to do with ‘freedom of speech’.

It has to do with workplace rules. For example: it's ‘legal’ to sing ‘Happy Birthday’... But if YOU insist on singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to every client - every day - in spite of your boss telling you to stop because it's costing business, - you'll get fired.

YOU still have the right to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ - but on your own time. This is the same.

The lessons of the Trump method will be especially potent if he produces a “red wave” defying political precedents and keeping the House in GOP hands. Even now, there are signs that GOP state and local candidates are “getting it.” Yesterday, driving through central Florida, I saw a street sign touting a Republican country commission candidate as a “Conservative Outsider.”
