I love the H&R 999. When I was a kid, my uncle had one and we shot countless rounds through it at our camp during the summers. My cousin inherited it upon my uncle’s passing so I know it’s still in good hands, but I have many fond memories of that revolver :)

Regardless of job, location, need, animal, foe, 31 rounds are just hard to beat.

Erle Stanley Gardiner wrote an article on survival back around 1960.

That is the exact same gun in the same barrel length he recommended. One of the all time great revolvers.

The major drawback of the Mark II IMO is the fact that once you take it apart to clean it they’re damned near impossible to reassemble correctly.

I have the Ruger MARK IV Target, which is great for plinking. I bought it a couple of years ago used, but they do run a little high in price new.

Cans? No, seems that road and trail signs are tha favorites.

Along with that is leaving all the shells and blown up stuff in pits to make shooters look like lowlifes.

I support the 2nd amendment but outdoor recreational shooting is totally out of hand and harms the rights of decent gun owners.

Wish they still made the H&R 999 top-break revolver!

The H&R .22s have a lot going for them, including a lower price tag than S&Ws (and also possibly C&R status ;^)...

(But a .22 WMR will do things to a potato at 50 yards, that a .22 LR can only dream about... ;^)

Agree. I have a 1981 Mark II that probably the first year after Ruger brought in on line after the Ruger Standard. The other major drawback that I have was the feeding of HP ammo. I thought about taking the ramp down a little but hate to mess with it since it has such a low SN.

There's a technique for that. Took me awhile to find it. Let gravity do the alignment work and it goes together easy-peasy.
