Defense Secretary Jim Mattis is expected to recommend to President Trump that transgender people can serve in the U.S. military if they can deploy overseas, a U.S. official with knowledge of the secretary’s thinking on the issue told Fox News Thursday.
The official said Mattis did not want to go against recent federal court orders which ruled Trump’s proposed ban on transgender people serving in the military is unlawful.

Actually to most of you who have commented on this without thinking. Remember there is a court order keeping DOD from doing anything overtly. The General has been putting a lot of emphasis on deployability lately. Non-deployable status is usually linked to a medical condition... think about it... it’s a good way to clean house including getting ride of most transgenders as their medical status would keep them from being deployed if the klaxon sounds. I wouldn’t sell the General short just yet.

Actually nearly all of them join to get the free surgery. They are not deployable while going through that process...so few will be able to stay in, and few will be joining in the future.
Mattis just said he would toss them out in a backhanded way.
Transsexuals need carefully monitored hormone treatments in order for the rest of their lives.
They are pretty much the equivalent of a woman who has had a complete hysterectomy. Of course they are not deploy-able. The military is not going to be able to provide them an endocrinologist with a pharmacy full of medications to keep them alive on deployments.

Courts have no authority to order such a thing.
Perhaps President Trump has his reasons for not forcing the issue. Maybe he knows something that shows my opinion to be foolish.
However, my opinion is that no pervs should be allowed to serve. It’s not a question of what pervs have a “right” to do; it’s a matter of what’s best for the country.

“If they can deploy.” To those uninterested in this debate that might seem like a reasonable ‘standard’. But the problem is that you can’t absolutely know that until you have to. Look at how many battalions have to deploy short-handed right now. How many of those units have to go begging to the manpower pool to find last-minute volunteers.
key word is if they can be deployed... any transgendered person that has been surgically operated can not be deployed in combat situations because of there need for medications after the surgery, the sex organ is open to infection because it was never meant to be altered the way it is being altered and the person is taking hormone treatments is not stable emotionally because of the hormone treatment.
Just shows the need for more sane judges - the man is following current law/legal orders - grow up and find a way to support Trump instead of helping the Left with the thousand-cuts attacks.

I agree with both of you. Hopefully he gets a couple more supreme court picks and that shiff will come to a screeching halt. Glad I retired when I did as it’s definitely not the same military I grew up in.
This is insanity. Mattis was supposed to be an old-school, sane commander. What is in the water in D.C.?
