The newly released portrait of former President Barack Obama is raising some troubling questions, not the least of which is "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?" The portrait was unveiled Monday at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C.

Hands can be the toughest part of the anatomy to get right—and here is where we see the limits of this artist’s competence. He’s actually done a pretty good job with Obama’s face, for example.
Quasi-skilled artists try to downplay their limitations by going with a primitive style that, for example, would make the off perspective of the chair legs a feature rather than a bug.
The Obama’s purposely excluded using White Artists for their Official Portraits and nobody blinks an eye.
In fact, it’s expected.
What does that tell you? I know what it tells me.

Looks like she has an extra wrist joint. Arms look more like an orangutang. Apologies to orangutangs every were for the comparison.

After viewing just a few photos it appears the issue is too close to call considering angles, etc. It would certainly fall within the artist’s perspective and I wouldn’t bet a buck either way.

Otherwise, Stalin’s Tsarist Russian enlistment medical exam (uncovered in the Soviet archives during Yeltsin)— Stalin had the third and fourth toes of his left foot (which was shorter than the right) were attached.. ie. webbed. And, he was 5’4” tall— in 1902. Russian Army rejected him with comments “the mark of the Devil” (russian orthodox church).
These “portraits” are much more— they are stalinist in their orientation to “just one of us” lie and also perpetuating the “victimhood” mentality, but also that both of them are not what they appear in real life to be. IOW false portraits purposely lacking any dignity. (well , maybe they are actually “true” lies).

The foot(left) was added to the shoe. It can’t possibly be only partly in the shoe. This is funny. He is sitting straight but the chair is at an angle.
I can’t see this extra finger... unless it is hidden somewhere in the weeds.
Or are ya’ll looking at the abductor digiti minimi muscle that flexes the pinkie? The artist has it lit up a bit in the painting; it may be a little more noticeable on a dark skinned person than on a pink skinned person owing to there being more distinct differences between the skin tones on the palm and sides of the hand relative to the dorsal side of the hand in people of color.
