Intimidating a journalist to become a federal crime
Canada Free Press ^ | 02/08/17 | Judi McLeod

The Rise of the #MeToo-Toos:

It would be laughable if it were not so cunning in intent: the Journalist Protection Act to protect reporters from the “toxic environment” supposedly created by President Donald Trump, who truthfully accuses media outlets like CNN of reporting “fake news”.

If California Democrat Eric Swalwell gets his way—and with Maxine Waters among 12 other Congressional Democrats on his side, who’s to say he won’t—it will now be a federal crime to “intimidate” or attack journalists.

Various forms of intimidation are already crimes; there is no need to duplicate existing law, nor to extend existing law to the point that it violates freedom of speech.

There is no such thing as a “journalist” constitutionally speaking. Every American possesses every right, freedom, and privilege that a so called “journalist” does.

Something like this might fly in Candada or Europe. Here it’s just stupid. These folks might want to crack a copy of the constitution on their lunch break.

Straight out of the DNC/MSM propaganda department.

Why would anyone want to attack journalists in the first place?

And what is their definition of an “attack” anyhow? Is it a rebuttal? Discrediting? Calling them out on their lies? Not accepting their screed as gospel? Or do they mean actual physical assault?

I’m thinking that the former is what they have in mind.

Judi McLeod is all about click-bait yellow journalism.

She and Jim Hoft are two peas in a pod.

Her headline implies this is a done deal, when in reality this will never make it out of committee and may not even get a cursory vote there.

When I was a kid at the dedication of Lady Bird Johnson Grove at the opening of the Redwood National Park we had all sorts of visiting dignitaries. Lady Bird, Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan to name a few. Pretty big stuff for our small town of Orick. Afterwards there was near unanimous consensus that “the media” were the most obnoxious, rudest jerks on the face of the planet.

Tump’s very existence makes him guilty of this supposed “crime”.

From what I’ve seen of Slawell he’s a nut, but he’s a self-controlled “reasonable”sounding nut, which makes him even more dangerous.

How about if you knock them out before they have a chance to feel intimidated?

Bingo. There is no “journalist” category which can be identified as warranting “hate crime” protection. The Left needs to understand: if they implement this, James O’Keefe et al get the protection - else there’s going to be a MASSIVE court case that will come to conclusions the Left won’t like.

Thanks Sean_Anthony. No problem -- and the White House gets to decide who is and isn't a journalist. Problem solved.

If they’d of thought this up 8 or 9 years ago it’d probably be law by now.

Everyone who reports or discusses events or has an opinion is a journalist. Anyone with a diary is a journalist. Every Freeper is a journalist. Every blogger is a journalist. Every 10 year old girl is a journalist.

In order for that to become a federal crime Trump has to sign it. So, that’s not gonna happen. Which makes this a political stunt which is about all the Dems are good for.
