George Takei, Keith Boykin, Martina Navratilova, and the creators of Will & Grace are among them.
Many LGBT people and allies are among those reacting angrily to Donald Trumps dissing of NFL players who kneel during the national anthem to protest racism, and to his criticism of NBA stars as well.
At a campaign rally for U.S. Sen. Luther Strange in Alabama Friday, Trump denounced football players who, following a practice started by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, fall to one knee during the anthem. He asked the crowd if theyd love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, hes fired?
He doubled down Sunday, tweeting that fans should boycott NFL games until owners fire or suspend players who take a knee. And his Treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin, said Sunday on ABCs This Week that players can exercise their free speech rights off the field. Trump also said he was rescinding the White House invitation for the NBA champion Golden State Warriors because of star player Stephen Currys opposition to him.
At a panel discussion in New York City promoting the return of Will & Grace to television, Entertainment Weekly editorial director Jess Cagle asked co-creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick how theyd feel if Trump called them son of a bitch.
I guess I would rather be a son of a bitch than the son of someone who was arrested at a KKK rally, Kohan responded, according to EW. There was rapturous laughter from the cast and audience, the publication reports. Mutchnick added, What he said. Im not going to beat that.
Trumps father, Fred, was reportedly arrested during a clash between the Ku Klux Klan and police at a Memorial Day parade in New York in 1927. Fred Trump wasnt charged with a crime, and a contemporary newspaper account of the incident said he was dismissed on a charge of refusing to disperse. Donald Trump has denied his father was arrested.
Chris Kluwe, the straight former NFL player known for his outspoken support of LGBT rights, had strong words for Trump during a CNN interview Sunday (watch below). Well, I think that the players and the teams are saying that they are not going to be dictated to by a racist, fascist white supremacist who currently occupies the highest place in our government, he told host Frederika Whitfield. When you look at what Donald Trump has said about speaking out against Nazis, I think its fantastic that players and owners are now taking a stand in using the platform to speak out against this because this is not what America is.

Many NFL players, some owners, and commissioner Roger Goodell have condemned Trumps comments, as have numerous NBA players. Players with several NFL teams knelt during the anthem today, like members of the Buffalo Bills, pictured above. And players for the Seattle Seahawks and Tennessee Titans stayed in the locker room during the performance of the national anthem before todays game in Seattle. The Seahawks players released this statement:

Their unmasking is great for America
Fewer and fewer people are tuning in. I remember when people used to care who won the Oscars, who won what music award, who won the Olympics, and I remember people talking about it days before and days after. I may be out of the loop, I’m sure I am, but I don’t remember anyone talking about any of this stuff for years now.
They keep pushing, no one will give a flip who won the Super Bowl. Their $18 million dollar salaries are not guaranteed in the Constitution. They are only guaranteed if people care enough to tune in. I have a feeling people are tuning out all over America.
Good...the traitors list becomes apparent and open.
More and more enemies of our country are coming out and exposing themselves.
This is really the height of stupid. Do they not realize who their fans are?
I remember when Dixie Chicks torpedoed their careers. They didn’t know who it was that listened to blue-grass-flavored-country-pop. They simply didn’t know their own audience.
These guys are turning themselves into Dixie Chicks right before our very eyes.
Mindless sheeple. Rebel against the flag or against their own DNA. All o.k. as long as it FEELS cool.
Is there any scumbag group that has NOT taken the bait? Ha ha ha ha eat crap and die. LGBTASPCA or whatever.
Maybe next Sunday, during the National Anthem they can all do a full-frontal kiss-and-grope-off. The networks will love it!
When the attitude you just described hits The Rose Bowl or The Super Bowl, that’s when we will all know a turning point in culture has been reached. Think of a Rose Bowl parade where there are 3 x’s as many people in the parade vs skimpy crowds watching it live. Will they still be blaming Trump or maybe The Russians for that too?

That’s a big surprise. Has Kim Jong-Un weighed in with his opinion yet?
Gee! I’m blown over by that surprise!
Intersectional politics.
Poor oppressed millionaires living in their 12 bedroom 10 bathroom mega mansions..I feel so sorry for them such oppressed human beings maybe we can have a telethon for them
There is so much hate from the Left these days.
Wow... can’t remember seeing any Lesbians or Gays...per se at sports events. But this is a game changer. What they all want in reality is anarchy. They’ll probably get it...
Boy, they are making this easier and easier for me. I am a guy who used to structure his week around the NFL. Now, I could care less.
