It's funny how most people come to the conclusion musicians are the least funded in the music industry or the general consensus is focused on music artists receiving support. This is so far from the truth as people sometimes forget about the music writers and bloggers. It's like they do not even exist. Though in actual fact they pour a tremendous amount of creativity into their art, just like the musicians and even more so at times.

Supply and demand.
There’s any number of musicians that can be turned into the Next Big Thing™.
There’s few who actually turn any given band/name into headline acts.

I’m not sure why music writers even exist. You just have to listen to music to tell if it sounds good to you. Who cares what some failed musician thinks? In fact writers are the kind of people who make good successful people feel that they have failed.
My son works for Citrix by day and is a Punk Rocker (guitarist, writer, bass and vocalist) and promoter her in NC. His day job is for the $ his after hours job is for the love of his preferred music which makes him zilch as far as money goes.
Are you confusing music writers with music critics?
The music has to be written before you can tell if you like it or not. And making people feel like they have failed sounds more like the domain of music critics, to me.
I guess I did. And I did read the article. I guess it just wasn’t clear to me. No offense meant against people who write music as opposed to people who writecabout music.
Instrument players are a dime a dozen.
Some clearly better than others.
Composers are a different breed.

I met Mark once back in 1977, just before Devo made it big. He told me they were probably going to move back to Ohio in a month because they couldn’t afford to live in LA any longer. The next week Iggy Pop heard them in the rehearsal studio, told Bowie about them, and he helped get them a record deal. Funny how life works sometimes.
Great story.
Iggy Pop is an interesting character.
How he had any influence is still beyond me.
