Once upon a time the SA would have been my top pick but since they followed the Red Cross out the door at Mar-A-lago to make some sort of political statement, they are off the list.

Mine goes to the local Baptist Church fund. I have confidence the Baptist mens relief effort will spend it properly.

Texas Baptist Men. They seem very well-organized and set up to do the sorts of things needed after a flood (feeding, shower and laundry facilities, mud-out crews), and they're based near the area flooded.

And I assume Christians traditional enough to believe in hell, and that diverting charitable contributions would be one way to end up there.

Salvation Army is my go to.

Red Cross and United Way are the worst. They don’t distribute enough money. Worse, Red Cross will always say they have enough money for that disaster and then channel your donation to some other event you did not earmark your donation for. You have no control over your money actually going to the disaster you intended it for with the Red Cross.

Check Charity Navigator or Charity Watch if you have any questions or concerns.

Keep in mind that Politics has now penetrated The Salvation Army, they pulled out of planned charity fund raising event at Trump’s Mar a Lago. I will have to rethink them.

Having looked at the information and choices I decided to donate to Catholic Charities. They already have a built in infrastructure for distribution and I feel that my money will go where it's needed most.

Calvary Chapel Houston. They’re boots on the ground, 100% proceeds goes to rescue and recovery. They are also looking for volunteers if you can make it down.

Catholic Charities.

My problem with Catholic Charities isn’t with Catholics. It is with Catholic Charities taking billions of dollars per year of our tax dollars to unload illegal immigrants and questionable refugees on the United States. I know they’re not the only ones doing it but I don’t approve of those organizations either.

I’ve nixed Salvation Army because they pig-piled on Trump after Charlottesville.

“The Salvation Army, the American Red Cross and Susan G. Komen on Friday joined a growing exodus of organizations canceling plans to hold fundraising events at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, deepening the financial impact to President Trump’s private business amid furor over his comments on Charlottesville.”

I nixed Red Cross decades ago because of veteran friends of mine who were screwed by Red Cross many times, and in many ways.

I’m not Southern Baptist, but I know that the Southern Baptist Men’s relief crews usually are first on the scene of any disaster. I would put my money there.

Quite a few in the military have had a bad view of the Red Cross since the 1950’s.
I have seen the local Salvation Army step up to the plate right away, not even waiting for national. One fire where my father was on the local VFD had the Salvation Army showing up while the fire was still going, providing food and hot drinks for those displaced and the first responders.

Samaritans Purse. I used to also support Salvation Army but not anymore because they went political.
