Deroy Murdock: Both sides were to blame for Charlottesville violence
The Union Leader ^ | August 17, 2017 | Deroy Murdock

HOW DARE HE?

President Donald J. Trump stood before journalists on Tuesday and said the unsayable: “I think there is blame on both sides.”

Rather than denounce only the execrable white supremacists and swastika-wielding neo-Nazis who organized Saturday’s hate-o-rama in Charlottesville, Virginia, Trump observed that there was violence coming from the KKK side and from extreme Leftists who opposed them with force — not with tranquility, as did those at a peaceful vigil Wednesday night.

The reaction to Trump’s comments was as swift as it was vitriolic:

“We can truly say his words have absolutely emboldened white supremacists,” said CNN’s veteran anchor Anderson Cooper.

The Chicago Sun-Times called Trump “America’s bigot in chief.”

“This is not my President,” declared Senator Ben Schatz, D-Hawaii.

Where was their anger when the ACLU described the situation as it unfolded? “Not sure who provoked first. Both sides were hitting each other at Justice Park before police arrived,” the ACLU of Virginia declared via Twitter on Saturday afternoon. The group identified both factions in a video of an open-air brawl on Charlottesville’s streets. “The guy on the ground is a Unite the Right protester. Those in black and red are #Antifa protesters,” referring to far-Left “anti-Fascist” thugs.

There was no angst when Reuters reported that “Many of the rally participants were seen carrying firearms, sticks and shields. Some also wore helmets. Counter-protesters likewise came equipped with sticks, helmets and shields.” Reuters correspondents Amanda Becker and Jeff Mason added, “The two sides clashed in scattered street brawls before a car plowed into the rally opponents, killing one woman and injuring 19 others.”

The fury was absent when NBC Nightly News’ Gabe Gutierrez explained that “witnesses say both sides came prepared for a fight.”

The Trumpophobes left their spleens unvented when the Associated Press published this headline atop one of its dispatches — “View from the street: Police stood by as adversaries fought.”

And there was no venom when Charlottesville Police Chief Al Thomas said: “We did have mutually combative individuals in the crowd.”

ABC-TV affiliate WRIC reported that police nabbed eight people tied to this melee. While some clearly were white-power extremists, others were anything but. These include Troy Dunigan, 21, of Tennessee. “He was arrested Saturday for throwing objects at ‘Nazi protesters,’ according to court documents.” Beth Foster, director of the Mercy Junction Justice and Peace Center, told NBC-TV’s Chattanooga affiliate WRBC that she knows Dunigan. “He is an anarchist and is part of an Antifa action to confront white supremacy, and that’s why he was in Charlottesville.”

CBS-TV station WTVR reported that, “Officials said Robert K. Litzenberger of Charlottesville was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery after a state trooper witnessed Litzenberger spit on Jason Kessler,” who organized the white-nationalist rally.

Facts barely matter when it comes to slamming President Trump. There is nothing Trump can say or do to please his fire-breathing foes, other than to head-first off the George Washington Bridge. (Washington owned slaves. So, tear it down!)

Seldom seen in this national meltdown is the name James Alex Fields, Jr. He is the suspected neo-Nazi who police arrested for turning his car into a weapon of hate, speeding it into a crowd of protesters, and thus, killing Heather Heyer, 32, and injuring 19 others. Even though he faces second-degree murder charges, surprisingly little of the national media and punditocracy’s fury is directed at Fields and his actions. Instead, the bitterness is pointed fully at Trump and his words — as poorly chosen and ill-timed as some of them were — as if the president of the United States, and not a 20-year-old bloodthirsty racist, were behind the wheel of that deadly Dodge Challenger.

Trump is a genius. After he mentioned “ALT-LEFT” we’ve now seen this week the first stories ever aired on MSM about Antifa.

CNN aired one that said Antifa was seeking “peace through violence.”

ABC aired a 20/20 report about Alt-Right and Antifa.

Today Trump tweeted that he supported the protestors today in Boston speaking out against racism. Then tweeted that some “agitators” were attacking the police.

He’s dividing up the mainstream Democrats from the Antifa crowd - something the MSM didn’t want to do.

Brilliant use of a press conference by Trump and demonstrates why the press absolutely exploded over it. Trump has exposed the Alt-Left and left them with no choice but to do stories about Antifa.

No, the animals in the pay of Soros are to blame. They're the same kind of animals that burned down the Library of Alexandria.

Before all is said and done, they'll burn down and destroy some priceless and irreplaceable piece of history then laugh while they piss on the ashes.

He really does play 3-D chess sometimes. And all these advisors leaving? There’s still this thing called the telephone. Much of this is Kabuki theatre.

When hateful groups organize to legally express their hatred, there is no justification for violence — unless, I suppose, the territory is not U.S. territory.

The Democrat Thug Party along with the GOP, Disney, Comcast, Viacom, and now AT&T tacitly if not explicitly support the violence perpetrated by Communists under the banner of Antifa. We have no choice but to endure the elected officials, but we still have the option to not patronize the parent corps that are effectively pissing in our shoes through their respective media properties. Say something. Do something. Deny something.

Agree.

Trump is playing the press.

Bannon is more useful as a free agent. Allows Trumo to triangulate. He’s now separated mainstream Dems from the true leftists.

Not sure there is much separation between the two, just like “moderate” Muslims.

Without Bannon around, Trump won’t be telling the truth any longer.

Trump is no longer his own man.

Trump is now owned by the Progressive wing of the Republican Party.

It is now impossible to “Make America Great Again.”

The Trump presidency is toast.A one term presidency.

Obama wins and there will be no dismantling of the socialist hegemon Obama established. Trump is now a placeholder president.America is still on the path of racial and ethnic nationalism and subsequent Balkanization, a weak nation, as Bannon had said.

Now the siege perilous of Bannon is empty.America has no hope, for now we must chose between the traduced ballot box or the bullet box.The will of the American electorate has been traduced.

McMaster has really screwed Trump royally. All of the Obama cannibal sharks are eating Republican flank steak tonight.Their man has taken Trump out.

The next likely president in 2020? George Clooney ( with Muslim wife Amal.)And Republican women will vote for him is droves.

“Make America Great Again” has now become a sick joke, a mere opiate of the masses.Trump now pursues the policies of Jeb Bush, the former wimp whose policies are now elevated to the traduced presidential desk. All thanks to McMaster, the quintessential globalist progressive who controls all access to the president. Trump just became a one term president.

Yeah, both sides were to blame, but the over all effect of Bannon defined racial and ethnic nationalism will continue without Bannon to direct the president. Thanks to Obama holdover McMaster.

No, the real fault was the planned instigation of violence by the Governor of Virginia and the Mayor of Charlottesville who pushed the groups together and let the the violence bloom while the police were ordered to stay back.

I disagree. Bannon is at Breitbart where he belongs. Before he was giving read meat to the press to attack his fellow white house staff. Now he can fight the left instead of the guy in the office next to him.

If this is true, and Attorney General Sessions does his job, there should be a grand jury and indictments coming.

John Kelly is Trump’s new chief of staff.
He is the one that will be controlling access to Trump.
McMaster is the National Security Adviser.

Regarding Fields and his Dodge Challenger we don’t know anything.

Some video show left protesters hitting his car *before* the incident. The mob was out and the mob was violent. Previous incidents have shown it is bad new for a White man, not obviously lefty scum, to be caught in a BLM/Antifa mob.

If Reginald Denny had driven his truck through the rioting LA crowd would that have been ‘terrorism’ or a hate-crime?

It may turn out that it was fully intended, either premeditated or momentary rage. It may turn out to be panic or self defense.

When some Islamic yells “Allahu Ackbar” before an attack we are told “we may never know his motives. Not all Muslims.”

When a White man surrounded by a violent mob attacking him in his car accelerates in to a crowd it is we do know his motives “White supremacy. Yes all Whites. Tear down the monuments.”

From what I know (and it is very little) of Fields he seems like he may be a bit ‘odd.’ He may well turn out to, Dylan Roof style, intended violence. At that time we can all condemn him. Until then it is “we may never know his motives.”

I agree with you. I don’t think Brannon is a racist, but I am not sure he is a good fit for the White House.

That happens to a lot of people at various times in their careers.

I am not defending Fields either, but it has been reported that the counter protesters were attacking cars with out of state license plates.

I am still having a very hard time figuring out how Fields managed to get to that particular spot. It is a very narrow one way street with very limited means of access. I can absolutely see how someone who didn’t know where he was going could suddenly feel trapped.

On the other hand, there have been local reports that the FBI has seized video tapes of Fields at a gas station (possibly with others) that is west of where the rally and the crash took place.

That would basically mean he headed back into a crowd that was close to rioting. I have a very hard time understanding that as well.

Republicans do not have to support “White supremacy,” but they can condemn left-wing antifa/BLM violence.

All the problems at these events are because Antifa/BLM are present. The communist left brings sticks (some with nails), rocks, batteries, containers of urine, mace, acid, bleach. Unite the right brought shields, helmets and goggles.

BLM and antifa had their own events in Ferguson, Baltimore, etc. with no “White supremacists” present; they all ended in violence, disruption, and riots.

Learn to be like the left: never let a crisis got to waste. Crack down on Antifa, BLM, and other George Soros groups.

If Dodge driver Fields is a terrorist than so is Antifa/BLM. They too are using violence as a tool for political intimidation.

Stop attacking Trump (whose comments were fair minded), start attacking antifa/BLM.

We sure haven’t heard much about the driver and why he drove in the crowd, wonder why?

It may be because of the reports that his car was being attacked, and he may have reacted out of fear. The armchair sleuth brigade took action within minutes to dig down into what really happened there.

Just as the armchair sleuth brigade has stopped the media narrative in its tracks by hitting the social media with all kinds of background information about the "Unite the Right" and the Antifa, it looks like they have also prevented the media from painting the driver of that car as a cartoon villain.
