North Korea Assembling Arsenal for a Nuclear Sneak Attack
The Daily Beast ^ | August 10, 2017 | David Axe

Posted on 08/10/2017 3:52:37 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

North Korea has been steadily assembling all the technologies it needs to put a nuclear warhead on a submarine-launched missile.

If the Pyongyang regime deploys an effective undersea nuke—and all signs point toward that eventuality—it might be able to sail a sub behind U.S. defenses on the Korean Peninsula and launch a surprise strike on South Korean cities.

The new undersea threat comes at a time of escalating hostility between the United States and North Korea. The communist country recently produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead small enough to fit inside its missiles, according to The Washington Post. Warhead-miniaturization is “a key threshold on the path to becoming a full-fledged nuclear power,” the Post reported.

In response to the report, President Donald Trump vowed to to inflict “fire and fury” on North Korea. A North Korean army commander called Trump’s threat “a load of nonsense.”

On Aug. 8, Pyongyang announced it was preparing a plan for a preemptive strike on the U.S. military base on the Pacific island of Guam. Responding to that threat, U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis warned North Korea to “cease any consideration of actions that would lead to the end of its regime and the destruction of its people.”

As the rhetoric on both sides grows more heated, North Korea is marching along the path toward a functional, long-range nuclear arsenal. Pyongyang possesses a increasing number of rockets that are presumably compatible with the new, smaller warheads it reportedly has developed. On July 4 and again on July 28, North Korea tested a ground-launched intercontinental ballistic missile capable of hitting the continental United States from the Korean Peninsula. Pyongyang also fields hundreds of shorter-range rockets.....

North Korea must be using Obama as an adviser because you don’t prep for a sneak attack and then tell everyone

Everything I see (and my gut--which is usually correct) says that we are about to attack.

It will be nothing like what the Norks expect.

Mattis is shock and awe to the nth degree.

That said, I think the artillery aimed at Seoul will by eliminated first.

The goal will be to break the spirit of the Nork military leadership...and it will crumble immediately.

Trump is going to reorder the world as we know it.

This is his opportunity to go big (or go home...and he won't).

This will put Mattis and Trump and their view of world order in the history books.

Iran will fall shortly thereafter.

This is signature stuff.

That matters when leaving a mark on the World...and Trump and Mattis, and even Kelly and Tillerson, are of the same mind regarding such stuff.

They’re neither sucidal or stupid. Or crazy.

They are calculating, and it has served them very well for a long time.

Daily Beast - Sensationalism packaged as news.

They have simply reworded and recharacterized facts already known into something...sensational.

Do you remember the off-the-charts war rhetoric Trump and Cruz put up to throw off the Deep State? Fooled almost all of us.

When we recall diplo corps and peacekeepers, my bells will ring.

A North Korean army commander called Trump’s threat “a load of nonsense.”

"NK will launch fire on the US"
NK commander: "I would say that is correct (otherwise I get eaten by dogs)

MOABs explode over the target, and thus the concussion does the damage. Kim U-fat, or what’s left of him will be a bunch of gooey red protoplasm, as disintegration is the normal outcome.

Can you please elaborate. Perhaps you are too deep for the common man.

But, for God's sake, please try.

Kind of screwy, the norks wouldn’t have to put it on a
sub to reach any place in the south.

The NK sub sails off in the direction of the US. It never arrives. Who can prove what happened to it?

Worked like a charm on Clinton and Obama. Probably worked on Bush too — because they all knew the Norks had nothing to back up their threats with.

Trump? We’ll see - but walking back what he has already said will be politically disastrous.

The thing the Norks don’t seem to realize is that the more credible their threats are, the more likely it is that they will get an entirely different response than they are used to. Ask Saddam Hussein about that. Your bluff had best not be so good that no one can tell it is a bluff.

And if they aren’t bluffing, that is a whole new level of stupid. Even if their attack succeeded beyond their wildest dreams it would still be the mother of all Pyrrhic victories.

Do you reall think that anyone will risk conflict. So you think we will start it. I just don’t know I think Fat boy would have to do something overt, for us to respon to, to trigger things. Then it’s Katy bar the door I guess!

1) CINC will not tolerate any of our guys being in mortal danger in NORK territory.

2) Or he would have recalled them already.

Thus, they are not in danger because the terms of the overthrow of Kim are underway. Our CINC does not risk a hair on the head of his people.

The author is wrong about the Nork's "preemptive strike on Guam." They said they would launch four missiles which would land in the ocean 20 miles or so outside of Guam. That is a demonstration, not an attack. If the government casts it as a threat to Guam it is because they want a reason to "defend" our turf.

Just for the record. Of course if they hit Guam, even "by accident," then the Norks are done for and with my total blessing.

That doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. They can hit any part of SK with a missile launched from NK. Why would they need to use a sub launched missile to attack SK?

Sub launched missiles w nuke warheads are solely for the purpose of hitting the US mainland. But all their subs are diesel powered and need to surface regularly to charge batteries, so I think they’d have a hard time of a sub sneak attack on the US.
