How Did Accused NSA Leaker Reality Winner Get Security Clearance?
NBC News ^ | June 6, 2017 | Ken Dilanian

When the news broke that Reality Winner, a 25-year-old NSA contractor with an apparently heavy social media presence, had been charged with leaking a classified document to reporters, many people wondered: How does someone so young have a such a top-level security clearance?

It’s actually very common.

"The vast majority of people who do the National Security Agency’s intercept work, who translate and analyze — most of them are fresh out of high school," said Matthew Aid, an intelligence historian who has written about the NSA. "There are thousands and thousands of 18 to 21-year-olds doing critically important and secret work around the world."

The NSA is a military intelligence agency, and many of the people who work on the front lines of intelligence gathering in the military are young enlisted personnel. If they are eavesdropping on anyone from a terrorist in Afghanistan to a Russian colonel, they need a very high security clearance. The equipment, the methods, the words they hear — are all highly classified....

I maintain that the USAF Race relations that the recruits are forced to take radicalizes them and leans them to the left.

Can we please dispense with the notion that 25 is "so young"? She's a full-grown adult for Chrissakes.

Then it's imperative that she be made an example of ... pour encourager les autres.

I had mine at 18.

I doubt that this bimbo would have been hired on back then.

I’m sure the Obama infiltrators have relaxed the standards.

I’ve been curious to know just how accomplished and ‘fluent’ in these languages she was. It’s one thing to be truly immersed in a language, understanding all of its nuances; and another to sit with a dictionary and figure things out in a plodding way.

It’s especially difficult for the average native English speaker to become fluent in Asian languages with different alphabets and completely different cultural references. This young woman’s spoutings on social media don’t exactly speak to the kind of intellect that it takes; and while we may learn more, there doesn’t seem anything in her cultural background that would incline her unusually toward ‘talent’ in this regard.

Maybe we’re so desperate for interpreters that we have to hire people who have simply learned a lot of nouns...?

I heard from many people in my hometown. “The FBI was here asking questions about you.”

That wasn’t my niche, at all. I took the language test during basic training because of my GT score, but it wasn’t for me.

Easy. She was a linguist in the Air Force. Her clearance had been renewed and was still in effect

Lee Harvey Oswald had a Top Secret Clearance at 18.

The FBI better be watching this POS. No bail custody

I thought the same but then Wondered how such a horse’s a$$ could get such a job/clearance at 25 years of age.

Better question is how did she get access to the report and why wasn’t her illegal access noticed?
