President Donald Trump’s budget proposal will limit eligibility for two tax credits, Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney told reporters on Monday, as the administration attempts to convince Congress to overhaul programs benefitting poorer Americans.

According to documents released by the White House in advance of the full budget on Tuesday, Trump’s budget would limit eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit to recipients “who are authorized to work in the U.S.” The EITC is a benefit for people with low to moderate income, and the child tax credit similarly benefits low-income households....

***Mulvaney said the EITC and child credit would not be available to those without a Social Security number. ***

Oh yeah? Well, how are they filing a tax return to obtain this “Free Money” under the current program?

I mean, it says right there on the form if you fail to submit a SS# and sign the form they will not process your return...

Political posturing...

Should have to prove US citizenship before any government benefit other than trip out of US. No non-citizen should ever get government services. And legal non-citizens should be deported if they ever need assistance from the government. Period.

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC):

someone gets a "refund" from the IRS, even though they paid no income taxes at all. (Free money)

Redistributing the dollars of hard-working citizens.
I have read that some of the actual citizens who get this welfare will figure out the least amount of income they can get on the books just to get the free money, then they can coast the rest of the year on their other freebies.

You can apply for this credit using either your SS number or taxpayer ID number. A quick search of EIC will amaze you the fraud in this giveaway.

>> Should have to prove US citizenship before

Well in that case, the Democrat Thug Party would be down at least 6 million general election votes.

These benefit the employer by allowing the employer to pay a substandard wage and the taxpayer makes up the difference.

They can claim all their kids that still live in Mexico too. The scam of the non-existan child not an unknown to citizens as well.

Absolutely true. Wife has a co-worker whose spouse is an IRS special agent. EITC fraud is a big thing in said spouse’s world.

They simply use a U.S. citizen’s SS#. Our government does not report the illegal use of SS#s to the rightful owners. There is a great divide between the IRS and the Social Security Administration. Income tax money, collected from someone using a ‘borrowed’ SS#, goes into a general fund for the government to use.

Milton Friedman’s biggest mistake.

Eliminate EITC completely.

Here in Kalifornia this fraud has reached to an art form. A very famous tax processing company assisted with hundreds of these EITC refunds at ONE SINGLE ADDRESS. Do not know what the payback was.

Another thing that will probably not be in the budget that Trump signs.

First question for all these is to McConnell and Ryan: can you get this passed through the House and Senate?
