Capital punishment in the US needs to be debated on its own merits and may eventually go the way of Canada. Until then, a humane society needs to choose the most humane method of employing it
Lethal injection executions, back in the news, just aren’t working. For a variety of reasons. While they are bloodless (so is strangulation, starvation, and being broken on the wheel), it appears they often are not painless. They most certainly are not quick, sometimes taking hours. They arguably violate the Hippocratic Oath in having a doctor perform them, yet you hardly want an amateur to perform them. And drug companies don’t want their products associated with causing death. Go figure!

Injections are given for the benefit of the onlookers, who can delude themselves into thinking that the condemned man doesn’t suffer. They don’t like looking at blood either.
Stop the delusions. The firing squad is pretty damned efficient. Works every time. So there’s a big bang or two!
Actually, smothering them with nitrogen is the most humane. They will never know they are asphyxiating.
I'm not arguing against firing squad either, except likely the shot could be placed other than on the heart.

Fainting, then the systems shut down due to lack of oxygen.

Why don’t we slowly pull them apart with giant forceps? Seems OK for the innocent unborn, so why not for the adjudged guilty murderer? I’m sure we could get “Dr.” Kermit Gosnell outta stir to be high executioner. He has lots of experience in such procedures.
Giant multi-ton flat rocks ... drop it, clean up any spatter that oozes out and use masonry glue to attach a “headstone”.

Wow - really ? Seems that most drug commercials I see these days on TV tell me I'll have thoughts of suicide if I use their product.......
100% pure dry nitrogen, inhaled, is absolutely lethal. It’s also dirt cheap and non-toxic.
