Why It Matters What President Trump Eats (One of the silliest articles you'll read this month)

It appears that one of the most visible achievements of Michelle Obama’s legacy as first lady will live on in the Trump White House: her garden.

First lady Melania Trump announced last week that she would preserve the White House vegetable garden planted in 2009. It came as a surprise to many nutrition advocates and food policy experts, who had expressed fears that Michelle Obama’s garden and the health and nutrition initiatives it symbolized could be endangered under the Trump administration.

Some advocates, including Michael Jacobson, president of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, are lauding the new first lady for expressing a commitment to the garden.

“I would give them credit for keeping the garden,” Jacobson told The Huffington Post, “and I hope they eat some of the food that comes from that garden.”

Still, individuals like Jacobson are trying not to read too much into it, given the scant details yet known of the Trump administration’s food policy plans.

“Best to wait and see,” New York University nutrition professor Marion Nestle said by email. “It’s hard to keep up with alarms from the White House, let alone potential alarms.”

There is legitimate cause for concern, however....

Yeah. Right.

Like they really expect us to believe that The Wookie and the Mozlem Faggot spiced up their diet of Waygu Beef and Lobster Tail with some fresh zucchini and pea pods from the garden that they picked themselves.

I’m surprised that there wasn’t already a kitchen garden of long standing or even an historic one at the White House, myself. No reason to tear it out in and of itself. But, the politicization of food is just ridiculous. Executive branch food “policy,” lol? Only a nanny-stater would deem that important. Want to fight obesity? How do you do that, since it’s a highly personal thing as far as life choices? Exercise is already being encouraged, healthy eating is as well. This is not a dictatorship no matter how badly the left would like it to be. People make bad choices, but it’s worse to try to force them into making different choices.

It’s just a way of conditioning people for the time
when they drag out the Kim Jong-Un haircut bowls.

Center for Science in the Public Interest aka the Food Nazis.

These are the people who almost made it forever impossible to get decent movie theater popcorn with butter. They have also done a lot of damage to ballpark hot dogs and hamburgers.

I hate them almost as much as I hate Southern Poverty Law Center. And any "news outlet" which uses either as a source can not be trusted.

It was my understanding that the vegetables can’t be eaten because the fertilizer is treated human waste. Good for grass and such only.

The Obamas did not tend the garden. They had a professional gardener. It was a show garden.

Michelle wasn’t wrong to advocate better nutrition. But the mandate approach was insulting to school dietitians; and, the lack of taste in school-provided food and feeling hungry, resulted in many poor kids relying on snack food rather than school food.

The way to end obesity is to stop enabling it. People take diabetes and cholesterol medicines in some cases, not because of unavoidable diseases, but to enable bad food and lifestyle choices. Schools need more recess time and less frivolous tests. Neighborhoods need safe play areas. If there's going to be healthy food dictates for schools, it has to be edible. etc

The author should be more concerned about what he eats, than what the President eats...

Just as long as the line item in the Whitehouse portion of the Executive Branch budget for personnel and supplies for the garden at taxpayers expense is cut out then it should be “supported”.
