Birmingham organization the Outcast Voters League and State Rep. John Rogers held a press conference yesterday to propose stricter gun laws in Alabama.
AL.com reports OVL President Frank Matthews was there to push a proposed piece of legislation known as the Sheri Williams Mandatory Gun Changes Act, named for a woman who was shot and killed by a stray bullet in 2013.
Were not against gun rights [but] demand accountability and responsibility of gun owners, Matthews said.
Rep. Rogers also voiced support for the proposal and said he would try to draft a passable gun reform law.
Im begging the law enforcement agency to come out and fight these gun laws, Rogers said. We need to stop the proliferation of guns.
The proposed measure would reportedly make the following 12 changes to gun laws in the state:
-Mandatory gun registration owner has registration card that lists all weapons
-No transfers unless done through a registration office
-New purchases must be picked up at registration office
-Mandatory gun safes; only registered owner will have combination
-Mandatory gun safety classes
-Open carry and concealed carry policies abolished
-Waiting period for gun purchase extended to three months to allow all paperwork to pass
-People under 21 prohibited from owning guns
-Extensive mental evaluation
-Mandatory liability insurance for firearms
-Required reporting of stolen firearms within four hours of discovery
-Ammo purchases made only for the caliber gun specified on registration
Leader of a local neighborhood organization, Robert Walker spoke of the gun violence problem in his community, saying gunshots were so common people hardly got up to look anymore. Walker, a concealed carry permit holder who carried his handgun at the meeting, argued gun owners should support stricter gun laws and stiffer penalties for gun criminals.
While holding Walkers gun, Matthews also talked about a recent shooting in which a gun transaction organized through Facebook went deadly wrong.
Isaiah Johnson, 17, and his friend Tavares Floyd planned to rob a third unidentified person, who reportedly shot and killed Johnson.
The unidentified shooter was not charged with a crime. Instead, Floyd was charged with the murder even though he didnt pull the trigger, due to an Alabama law that states a person can be charged with murder if involved in a felony that results in death.
Matthews called on the Jefferson County District Attorneys Office to investigate and arrest the individual who pulled the trigger, arguing the individual was a prohibited possessor due to being a teenager.
Sen. Rogers plans to discuss the Sheri Williams Mandatory Gun Changes Act with other lawmakers in Montgomery on Tuesday and urged anyone with gun law ideas to contact him.
Everyones life matters, Rogers said.
But, it does show how much these people hate lawful gun owners and the U.S. Constitution.

Not against gun rights, but.....
Right there you know they are lying.
Emails leaked a long time ago by anti gun groups and politicians show this is the tactic they use to disarm.
Antigun folks dont get to decide what common sense gun laws are.
If so we needs all men to decide womens reproductive healthcare rights. They dont like, that. So why do we let them definemwhat is common sense for gun owners when they dont know a clip from a magazine or anything else about guns for that matter.
What they do know is guns can be used to resist criminals sponsored by their government.Socialism can only triumph when the people are unarmed.
a call for “common sense” laws scare me.
It’s usually an attempt at an end run around the Constitution.
Yup, but the good news is that this meeting probably could have been held in a phone booth.
We’re not against gun rights, but....
But, we’re coming for your guns.
If you read the article, one of their gripes is that someone got killed while attempting to rob someone. His accomplice is being charged with murder ‘even though he didn’t pull the trigger’ and the would-be victim isn’t being charged. We just can’t have crime victims defending themselves!
This isn't for reducing criminal "gun violence". This is for reducing the risk that criminal young black men will get shot by their intended victims.
Let’s curtail these morons 1st and 4th Amendment rights for a while as a test on how this works before any further discussion.
...Isaiah Johnson, 17, and his friend Tavares Floyd planned to rob a third unidentified person, who reportedly shot and killed Johnson....
And that these crusaders prefer that street thugs like Johnson and Floyd shoukd be able to prey on unarmed, helpless individuals. What’s common sense about that??
Blame the victim, cause Dindu Nuffin was attempted felony assault and robbery.
Substitute “negro persons” for guns, and see how they like those potatoes. I could do a list like the one they gave, but it would be in bad taste. Yet it demonstrates what tinkering with civil rights can get you.
Then they talk to us about "common sense".
I need to be on this ping list.
No problem with these criminals stealing a gun to commit a crime, but a young law abiding guy (no mention of race, possibly black) having a legal gun is a problem?
But but but... the thieves were turning their lives around, I’m sure, and just needed cash to tithe at their church.
Typical TREASONcrat.... What part of “Shall not be infringed” do these retards not understand?
Gun laws don’t work morons. Why not just make a law making it illegal to kill somebody? Morons.

So, why is the guy with the hat and camo brandishing a gun?
