After you have been puking and squirting for 24-48 hours getting an intravenous re-hydration of electrolytes and sugar is a gift from God. In the bad old days many people's bodies would have purge itself of the pathogens causing the illness yet still die from dehydration and loss of electrolytes.
Hard-earned advice from me to Freepers - if you have been fouling the world from both ends for over 12 hours and are praying for death then go to an urgent care and get an IV of fluids. You will feel much better in minutes.
