Immigrants, refugees are vital to Cleveland industry, despite Donald Trump's beliefs: Panelists say

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Michael Goldberg, a Cleveland-based professor, has read headlines about humanitarian and national security issues surrounding refugees and immigrants coming to America through programs nationwide.

Still, all Goldberg could think about was how Cleveland businesses will be affected by recent executive orders made by President Donald Trump.

Trump campaigned hard on the idea that immigrants threaten American communities, take away jobs and abuse government benefits like housing assistance and food stamps. So Goldberg pulled together a panel of local business and community leaders that offered an entirely different perspective. They say immigrants and refugees are critical to their manufacturing businesses. They're filling jobs that locals just don't want.

Representatives from National Safety Apparel, the Dan T. Moore Company and US Together, a nonprofit servicing the needs of recently arrived refugee families in Cleveland, served as panelists Monday at Case Western Reserve University. Their goal was to offer an entirely different perspective.

"Refugees are a huge economic engine for what we call 'Rust Belt' cities. Cities like Pittsburgh, Detroit and Cleveland where there are population declines, and where there are manufacturing jobs, but they're right on that cusp of they might leave or send their manufacturing overseas," said Danielle Drake, a spokeswoman from US Together. "Refugees are replacing that workforce. They're making Q-tips and they're sewing and they're doing all of these jobs so we can keep them in our cities and they're giving back to the economy."

Goldberg said he put together the panel because he wanted Case Western students and members of the community to hear about how immigrants and refugees have been critical to filling needs to Cleveland businesses that struggle to fill jobs like sewing and even washing dishes....

Plus we can pay them sub-minimum wage and abuse them and who are they going to complain to?

“Trump campaigned hard on the idea that immigrants threaten American communities”

FAKE!

He campaigned against ILLEGALS, not “immigrants”.

His wife is an immigrant, one that came here legally.

He has no problem with those that obey the law and follow the rules on immigration.

"Refugees are a huge economic engine for what we call 'Rust Belt' cities

Right. That's why its called the Rust Belt, because refugees are great for the economy.

Cities like Pittsburgh, Detroit and Cleveland where there are population declines, and where there are manufacturing jobs

The population declines because manufacturing left. Bring back manufacturing and *presto* the population starts growing again. Just like magic.

Cleveland needs immigrants from the Middle East?

What - for maid service in the Heights? Oh Wait! They might decapitate their employers!

As for “unfilled jobs” in Cleveland - which ones would those be?! All my relatives there left for other parts of the country because there aren’t any!!

When an employer doesn’ have to pay income tax , social security, workman’s comp and other benefits to illegals, it is amazing what it does for the bottom line. Also, i bet the ranch the professor’s children aren’ t attending schools where half the class can’t speak English and this makes it impossible for the teacher to teach. But we think we are getting cheap tomatoes.

A city like Cleveland, as most urban centers, have a high percentage of Amish. How can a segment of society with an unemployment rate in the double digits not riot over libtard jackasses like this? LBJ said they would be voting Democrat for 200 years happy on the plantation. He was exactly right.

Unless the unemployment rate in Cleveland is zero, it doesn’t need illegals or temporary refugees.

Cleveland is full of panhandlers and thieves. Legal or not. There’s also a radical Islamic element.

Illegals have no place in America or in any other country. Legal immigrants are welcome, subjects to the numbers and restrictions set by Congress Articles on “immigrants” always mean illegals and hide that ugly fact.

They're filling jobs that locals just don't want.

Because the locals would rather be on welfare.

Cut off the flow of illegals and cut off welfare.

Problem solved.
