Africa’s leaders contemplate a future without the U.S.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — In Barack Obama’s landmark speech before the African Union in July 2015 – the first by a sitting U.S. president – he told the assembled heads of state and delegates that the United States was ready to be a development partner with the continent, while warning that would come along with American promotion of human rights, whether they liked it or not.

“You are kind of stuck with us – this is how we are. We believe in these things and we’re going to keep talking about them,” he said to applause and laughter from the delegates.

Now a year and a half later, the African Union is grappling with a new U.S. president that has said very little about Africa but looks set to step away from decades of bipartisan investment in Africa and has advocated using torture during interrogations.

At the African Union’s annual summit meeting in Addis Ababa, that concluded Tuesday, Africa’s leaders heatedly debated a number of issues, including who to elect as chairman, Morocco’s return to the group, and whether to walk out from the International Criminal Court. But beyond the official agenda was a sense of unease over what many see as a new era of nationalism ushered in by the election of President Trump....

They will be toiling under the yoke of their Chinese masters, yearning for the good ol’ days of European colonialism.

The only two things obama ever really cared about besides schmoozing with celebrities was anything to do with the LGBQxyz community (since he was a bonifide member) and his fellow muslims. Everything else was just noise to him. Everything. Sure, he put on a nice little show with the Kabuki theater, but it was just show. Even his family was fake in my opinion. They were nothing more than a prop for him.

Yep. That’s because the Portuguese and Muslim inspired slave trade took their best and brightest and got them out of the hell hole of Africa’s Ivory Coast.

I was going to post something similar.

Aid to Africa is not only a waste, it does more harm than good.

Why is it, if having gotten rid of the legacy of colonialism, which was supposedly to blame for Africa’s problems, that these African nations are still basket cases, decades after the end of colonial rule???

There are a number of reasons, probably enough for dozens of sociology students to get masters or doctoral degrees out of analyzing them.

One factor is that the history of European interactions in Africa is a history of exploitation. This leads to continued resentment and friction. Had the Europeans endeavored to interact with the Africans as partners, history might have turned out differently.

Another is that the Africans have not been socialized to the values most functional societies hold. You cannot expect countries to function as democracies or republics when none of their citizens have ever been taught in that tradition. The history of the continent of Africa is one of conflicted tribalism (much like the history of the Americas before we arrived). They haven't moved beyond that.

Yet another factor is that there are still severe problems with infectious disease and malnutrition in Africa. These diseases kill off most young children, and those who survive have decreased intelligence because the energy that should have gone towards brain development was used instead for survival. If the conditions for optimal brain development do not exist within the first few years of life, brain development is permanently impaired. It is very difficult for countries to develop when they don't have the intellectual base.

Solving the problems of Africa is a slow process. It actually is in our best interest to do so (IMHO) because it has impacts on US security in the long run.

“A slave trade they cultivated for their own selfish political ends....Everybody teaching this sort of things always overlooks this for some reason....Can’t think of a reason why, but they do”

The takeaway from the publicly educated idiots is that...Slavery was invented by the United States. Prager brought to light last year through street Q&A’s in urban areas.

“They contemplate a future without American (money)”

By “they” I take it you mean - The corrupt Governments and warlords. As very little benefit is filtered down to those actually in need.

It is colonialism that introduced the structure and benefits of civilization.

I would attribute Africa's troubles to three factors:

1. tribalism
2. a favorable climate for food supplies with minimal cultivation (which limits the need for hard work and human ingenuity to survive)
3. geography (most of Africa's coast has few natural harbors that would support port development, which inhibits trade)

Governments? Many of those nations are like medieval Europe divided up into loose territories but controlled by warlords Any government you would deal with really has no power. They only way to fix most of it is put U.S. Troops on the ground. No thanks I want no U.S. blood spilled there just so we can be told how evil America is after we liberate them. The Wars in the middle east taught me well. They can all fuck off.

Colonialism was bringing them into Western civilization.

Yes, there were terrible abuses. Probably the worst was in the Belgian Congo.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leopold_II_of_Belgium

The tragedy was that colonialism did not last quite long enough. It came close in Kenya, Rhodesia, and South Africa.

But the evil of leftism corrupted Western values and imposed corrupt African leaders on the former colonies.

Much of the gains made under colonialism have been replaced by kleptocrats and recurrent tribal warfare.

They were basket cases before colonial rule and after. Considering their natural resources are plentiful to support various industries and a fairly decent economy, most countries should rank with the better European countries (OMG! that’s racist!!)

There is a common denominator here. Just like the mess south of the Rio Grande to the tip of South America has a common denominator.

I would hope the President would still help Africa with goods produced here...

...not money or credits only goods produced here. Water purification products, farming items, advisors etc.
