Trump signs order spurring 'great rebuilding' of armed forces

President Trump on Friday afternoon signed an executive order that he said would spark a "great rebuilding" of the United States military.

"First, I’m signing an executive action to begin a great rebuilding of the armed services of the United States, developing a plan for new planes, new ships new resources, and new tools for our men and women in uniform, and I’m very proud to be doing that," he said at the Pentagon.

"As we prepare our budget request for Congress ... our military strength will be questioned by no one, but neither will our dedication to peace, we do want peace."

The details of the order were not immediately clear, but it is believed to call on his newly minted Defense secretary James Mattis — who was sworn in by Trump at the Pentagon on Friday — to execute a national security strategy aimed at “Peace through Strength,” a slogan he used during the campaign.

Mattis will be tasked with preparing a 30-day “readiness review,” assessing what is needed to combat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in additional training, maintenance and infrastructure, according to an earlier report from the Washington Post.

It also allows Mattis to “override” Trump regarding the use of torture like waterboarding of terrorist suspects. During Friday’s joint press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May, Trump said he would defer to his Defense secretary despite his own support for enhanced interrogation methods.

The order calls for a joint review from the Pentagon and Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to craft a “military readiness emergency budget amendment,” which would boost military spending this year and give Mattis the ability to make changes to his agency’s budget proposal for 2018 within 90 days.

To begin with - Trump needs to drain the swamp at the Pentagon as well.

I think Mad Dog will get the job done very nicely there.

It’s amazing. We actually have a real President.

Does anyone feel we’ve been missing a president in the previous 8 years?

I know, I know, Duh. But the contrast is striking.

Need to reverse some of the recent changes beginning with a rule that allows dreadlocks, beards, turbans, or hijabs for religious reasons. As a veteran of 24 years I find this appauling. Did the meaning of “uniform” change? This will result in futher reducing the cohesiveness of military units. I hope Mad Dog reverses this.

Starting next January 1st, 2018, young women will need to register as available for the draft. This was voted on and decided last Tuesday. I think via Congressional Vote.
The attitude was, since all combat jobs are now forced open to consider both men and women, we may as well have the girls begin registering just like the 18 y/o boys do.
John McCain was okay with it. Ted Cruz was not.

I understand all the love the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines get, but please Mr President, may the Coast Guard have at least a couple of cutters that are not held together by paint and happy thoughts?

Place all active duty personnel on pre-war training for 5 hours a day. The rest can be spent at the local Walmart earning extra money. Maintaining the bases can be done by vets-part time- who are retired from something else or those on SSI. I’d work for the minimum wage.

Mad Dog, it turns out, is a follower, student, and practitioner of the military reform effort of John Boyd, and such famed acolytes as Chuck Spinney and Pierre Sprey. Now, I know from interactions on this site that there are a number of grudge-grinds in DoD acquisitions that thought this move was long dead and supressed. I suggest anyone who thinks that get a copy of Maj. Gen. Scales on War: The Future of America's Military at Risk. You can read the free preface on the Amazon site.

Sounds like it is payback time for some corrupt careerists who genuinely deserve it. PS. One learns that Mattis was a devotee of Boyd's maneuver warfare and practiced it in GW1 and GW2. It is Marine Corps doctrine. Of course we all know that Col. Boyd was detested by the Air Force for giving them the F-16 and A-10. The Air Forced wanted neither real fighters nor close in support aircraft.

And don’t forget the unorganized militia, President Trump. I want an M-60, an M-203 and a gross number of grenades.

Absolutely. Seems like Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize during his first two weeks of his first term without doing a damned thing. Trump has accomplished more good things in his first week than Obunghole did in eight years! We have a real American and America-loving man in the White House. Sure makes a difference!

That’s because we were missing a President.

We had an usurper instead because everyone in the District of Corruption failed to uphold the Constitution.

OK, the election is over and still the MSM, the rats, and the libs (redundant?) are still protesting and reacting as if a.) they didn’t get a chance to vote, or b.) they won the election.

What’s the best way to ensure that the administration doesn’t just hear the LOUDEST, whiniest, annoying voices? You know, the squeaky wheels?

The President is kicking ass! But we need to ensure he knows we still appreciate it! Especially that weak-kneed GOP. I was encouraged to hear Steve Bannon tell the media to shut up and listen for a change, for example.

"HUZZAH!!!" shouted the engineers and machinists who will build all that stuff. You'll get another cheer from them for a set of design requirements that doesn't change every five minutes ...

It was worse than that. We had an enemy, a truly malevolent entity, occupying the White House for 8 years.
