WINCHENDON At the elbow of the bar, where afternoon regulars with calloused hands gripped $3 longnecks, the consensus was clear in the Toy Town Pub: America needs President Trumps business smarts.
The country needs Trumps tell-it-like-it-is bluster because politicians who told us what we wanted to hear got us into this mess. It needs Trump to build that wall along the Mexican border to protect Americans who cant find jobs.
Most of all, America needs Trump to restore prosperity to forgotten places like Toy Town, the nickname Winchendon acquired a century ago before the toy industry left.
That sense of being ignored may be why, for the first time since 1988, most Winchendon voters backed a Republican for president....

I pray we are witnessing the begining of the end of the democrat party. The dems are more aligned with CPUSA.
I certainly hope so. If that happens, it is because President Trump has been successful. If congress stands in his way, and the DNC puts up another ‘her time’ to run (split by a Tom Steyer campaign), it’s possible she might flip a state or two and give President Trump a second term.
I honestly don’t think that’s going to happen. I think congress will push forward much of Trump’s agenda if for no other reason than assuming that these ideas will flop (after all, their experts say that’s what would happen.) And I think that it will be successful. Wildly successful. Which will lead to a Steyer v Trump campaign. And likely lead to an extremely similar victory.
They are double clutch shifting from ‘hate them’ to ‘pity them’.
Trump’s energy policies should be low-hanging fruit easy winning. That would derail Steyer. In addition, the Dems will not unite around a white male - it’ll be a womyn again - not an African-American - see last Saturday.
If Trump leads a winning economy and end of ISIS, the Dems will fall back on identity victimology nonsense.
Pity is is sometimes snide and not that far removed from hate. Oftentimes, too, the objects of pity resent it, especially when it’s uninvited.
I don’t quite see how Trump is going to bring manufacturing back to the US if foreign countries have lower labor costs and we have a free trade regime.
“The next Democratic candidate may not even win as many states as Hillary did, at this rate.”
This very week Trump needs to have his people begin the task of ensuring fair elections and end the cheating. The Dems know they didn’t cheat well enough this time so they’ll be perfecting their game now. The testing will be in 2018, and all systems will be in place for 2020. It has to stop.
Can anyone at the Boston Globe write even two sentences about central Massachusetts without indulging in odious, smirking condescension? On the evidence, no.
Lots of people in Central Massachusetts backed Trump. There were definitely more TRUMP signs and more prominently displayed than for Hillary! It’s only the Democrapic hellholes like Springfield and Holyoke and the toney little college towns that vote for Dems.
In late Oct I was in the Spfld / Agawam area, and I was shocked at the number of Trump signs in Agawam. Glimmer of hope for sure...
The tariff on the products the cheap labor produced would offset the benefit of using the cheap labor.
I’m very familiar with the town. Former manufacturing town, now there’s none. Many of the stores on main street are empty. Beautiful area, right on the NH border.
Check the comments from the globe’s compassionate wing bats. Dripping with scorn, condescension. And they wonder why they lost?
Western MA, northern CT and ALL of RI are completely and utterly economic carnage.
Western MA, northern CT and ALL of RI are completely and utterly economic carnage.
South Eastern Massachusetts too....
I think the northeast small towns and small cities (Vernon, Manchester, New Britain in CT) will be ground zero to revive the GOP...Yes, it may not be as Conservative as the South, but more liberation.
Agenda 21 is about depopulating rural areas.
New Hampshire now has a Republican Governor *and* Legislature for the first time in a while. Some time ago a Rat Governor and Rat Legislature enacted "same day registration".That immediately resulted in massive fraud on voting day because of the way it was written and because the chances of being caught and punished were basically zero (also written into the bill). It's been common knowledge that many busloads of vagrants from Massachusetts have been voting there since it was enacted.
Seems that Minnesota could flip...and that one of Maine's EVs will continue to go GOP.Virginia has too many government "workers" and Nevada has too many Californians and people whose names end in "z".
When I saw both Litchfield County and Windham County red in the results, I know that Connecticut voters are getting tired of Democrats. I voted for a few Dems when I lived in CT, Ella Grasso (knew her), my great state Senator Tom Monahan, but Conservative Dems in CT is extinct.
