Is there a wiser way to use FR?
God, I hope | January 19, 2017 | HiTech RedNeck himself

Well.

It has been 16 years more or less that I have been on FR.

My participation began with the contested Bush-Gore election in late 2000.

I've seen a lot of debate, a lot of discussion, and a wide palette of points of view from left to right and on many spiritual subjects.

I believe the present season, with not just Trump but a new salvational consciousness on the horizon, is an answer from God to the confusion.

Anyhow, as the "age of Trump" comes upon us, are there wiser ways to use FR than to chew the fat on behalf of particular parochial views? Perhaps it would be the time, instead, to look at how a full-salvational God consciousness can bridge what looked like unbridgeable gaps.

I got into a debate today on Facebook. It was with a women's protest movement that, typical of our modern Left, took the LGBT etc. under its wing. Well we know that's folly. I tried to sell them on the point that it was folly. I got asked back whether I'd ever met any of these folks. Well here's where I took a turn I might have taken differently. Rather than saying yes, I've seen them do thus and such, which emphasized how much I knew, I could have pulled the mirror out right there and then, and asked how many conservatives or even centrists that person had met, and are they all the same?

Conservatives can get so fixed on the idea that the Left is ghastly wrong, that they can also forget that even blind squirrels smell out some nuts. A full authoritarian brain wash job towards the Left isn't needed, if we can rightly capitalize on, even empathize with, what they correctly identify as desiderata. Sometimes it's just our own pride or lack of patience that has caused us to get frozen into a certain attitude. As even Trump said, "I'm going to bring us together." Let's give both God and Donald a chance.

The format of FreeRepublic is the same since I first joined in Oct 1998. I like it they way it is. I remember Ash Alerts, and when the FBI showed up at Doug From Uplands house, I remember the protest formed by FR to go to DC in ‘98. I remember “All Your Base are belong to Us”. Long live FR.

Look for the thread from yesterday about the list of differences between the left and the right. Then get back to me after you peruse it.

True... we can venture into hypotheticals about their subject matter.

I got called a troll too. I took it in good humor and spoke of “trollery.”

Anyhow, there’s a point where the discussion is simply enough for the situation. If I push past that, I’ve made it about me. I am glad God is merciful, or every time I ventured into that region, things would immediately go to hell in a handcart. The reality is that the degradation of a situation under supervision of God can often be graceful. There is some window of opportunity in which to correct, and even the correction does not need to be perfect to be effectual.

A funny thought crossed my mind, both Drudge and FreeRepublic have not changed a thing since I found them back in the mid nineties as far as format and or how they run their sites. I would say both of them have had a tremendous impact in their own way. If Trump builds the wall, it is because back in 2006 the Republican congress made it a law because of tremendous backlash and pressure from groups like the Freepers fighting amnesty every step of the way under Bush Jr. We forget stuff like that, but the archives of this site will be a treasure trove for future historians.

I personally think Trump is going to blow the DC establishments minds in how fast he gets down to business. He owes them nothing and he is a 70 year old billionaire with a chip on his shoulder. I truly hope we get sick of winning.

(1) Where is it?
(2) Why get back to you specifically? You think you have some overweening lesson to teach?

Going native
(idiomatic) To adopt the lifestyle or outlook of local inhabitants, especially when dwelling in a colonial region; to become less refined under the influence of a less cultured, more primitive, or simpler social environment.

I think the getting sick of winning is partly metaphorical, partly an insight into human nature.

Could it be we just didn’t WANT to win, because the effort required, even with a perfect leadership, seemed to be too massive to embrace? That rather than winning, we just wanted to be Deplorable Group 1 vs. Deplorable Group 2, and now our worlds were very simple?

Part of winning will be negotiating.

Trump is a successful businessman for a reason. You don’t get to where he does by not being pragmatic. That being said, the days of America being a globalist piggy bank are over, he has made that abundantly clear.

Without an even greater context, such as what world realities and social beliefs lay beyond both the Left and Right as outlined here, we really don’t have the right to equate descriptive to prescriptive.

Agreed! It is difficult to reach people who feel cornered or feel they know less about a topic. Their shield starts to come up, and the conversation begins to close. It’s as though it becomes an attack on one’s intelligence, when it is not. Reaching “adult” people who feel less informed is difficult because it becomes personal really quick, IMHO.

I would predict, however, that if FR does not move to embrace the conciliatory space... then someone else will, and FR itself will be marginalized.

What good does conciliation due with those who refuse to cooperate?

Pearls before swine....

So, yes is the answer.

I try to be frank, honest and blunt with them
but still do it with the hope they will become free from their delusions and hate.

As an example, a post I made to a Trump hater..

Once you accuse him of being a racist you expose yourself to be an ill-informed bigot
and make the rest of your thoughts not worth reading.

Being so full of hate is not something enviable.
I hope you come to your senses, with a firmer grip on reality
and commitment to think and investigate rationally
while leaving the hyperbole and hysterics behind.
