Priebus: Trump doesn't want to 'meddle with Medicare or Social Security'

Incoming White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus on Sunday suggested President-elect Donald Trump stands by his campaign vow not to cut Medicare.

"I don't think President-elect Trump wants to meddle with Medicare or Social Security," Priebus said on CBS's "Face The Nation."

"He made a promise in the campaign that that was something that he didn't want to do."

The president-elect does plan to grow the economy and help "shore up Medicare and Social Security for future generations," Priebus said.

"And if we can get 3 to 5, 6 percent growth, we'll do that," he said.

"And we'll explode the economy, and bring jobs back, and make trade more fair across the world, lower rates for everyone, and I think hopefully get businesses going again so people can put more money in their pocket."

During the presidential campaign, Trump said he did not want to change the popular program.

“I’m not going to cut Social Security like every other Republican, and I’m not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid,” Trump told the Daily Signal last year.

What about the nearly trillion dollars in cuts to Medicare that Obama made, to pretend that Obamacare was feasible???

Trump may not want to do anything about entitlement programs but events may overtake him.

The first thing the ‘RATS mention when they trash Trump about their “wildly popular” ObamaCare is that MEDICARE relies on ObamaCare. They always manage to confuse MEDICARE with MEDICAID. Most snowflakes don’t know the difference.

Unlike Obama who has gutted Medicare to pay for Obamacare.

Oh dont worry, I got it.

Paying the now TWENTY PERCENT co pay on my 84 year old mother’s colonoscopy, which comes to about 1,200, compared to 10 bucks 5 years ago.

As long as obama’s sons are covered, i’m happy to do it!

Democrats always said Republicans would cut Medicare, but it was OBAMA who raided Medicare Advantage and took 800 billion to help fund his Obamacare dream. Now fewer medical providers take Medicare advantage because of the funding cut...

The rules are always different for Democrats. The consistent liars and deceivers.

How about the 5 years with no COLA for SS...and the two years where they did raise them went entirely for Part B....right out of your check.

Entitlements, including Medicare and SS, must be drastically, if slowly, reduced. I propose a 3% across-the-board reduction in all federal programs over a minimum 10-year period.

You are supposed to pay “20% of the Medicare-approved amount.” So, are you saying that medicare approves $1,200.00 and you pay 20% of that. I have additional retirement company insurance but I realize others do not... I hope you are not saying you paid $1,200.00.

I paid into SS since 1964. I deserve what I get... I am glad you are not running things. Our problems do not come from those recipients who paid into the system. Better idea is that if you haven’t paid into SS for at least 30 consecutive years you get nothing. Do away completely with the disability scam.

It’s a ponzi scheme that has stripped money from American workers at every job their whole lives under a promise. They had no choice.
