The Nigerian community in the U.S. has lauded the appointment of Bayo Ogunlesi by President-elect Donald Trump into his Economic Advisory Team.

Mr Michael Adeniyi, former President of a Nigerian U.S.-based group, the Organisation for the Advancement of Nigerians Inc. (OAN Inc), told NAN that “Bayo Ogunlesi is an excellent and extraordinary Nigerian.

“He is very humble, brilliant and outstanding in every way you can think of.

“He has achieved outstanding success in Wall Street and he’s a proud ambassador of Africa, which he started in Kings College.

“For him to be appointed into Trump’s Economic Advisory Team is a honour to Africa and especially to Nigeria. He will add value to the Trump’s team and he’s worthy of celebrating....

I don’t know anything about this guy, but Africa is in a stage like Asia was in 20 years ago. They see the enormous strides China has made, and they want a better life too. It would be good for Trump and African countries to work together to develop African markets. Not as charity work, they’ve already been punished with enough pity, but with genuine investment.

China has been making HUGE investments in Africa. They are getting extensive rights to minerals there. We ignore this at our own peril.

Our world view for the last 30 years, shaped by progressives, was that the Earth had limited resources, and that places like China had to reduce their population so that we can have cars. Instead, after the cold war ended, the developing world went on the single greatest development binge in world history, dramatically raising the living standards of 2 billion people or so, while we almost completely ignored it. Africa hasn't ignored it, and they want it too. We can go help other countries develop, and get a return on our investment, just like China.

Amen to that. Charity is more about the givers “virtue signaling” than actually getting anything done. You don’t help people by turning them into objects of pity.
