The song was written (before the outbreak of the war) for the 1942 movie Holiday Inn, offensive, in part, to some modern sensibilities, but a much better movie than the 1954 re-make White Christmas.

I have to disagree with you on Nat King Cole. I was a part time DJ in college and I worked several shifts over Christmas so the regular staff could have some time off. Instead of our regular programming, we played wall to wall Christmas music. Over twenty years later, Nat King Cole’s version of “O Tannenbaum” (in German) is still seared into my brain. The man clearly didn’t know the German language and absolutely butchered that song. It was horrible.

I love Jackie Evancho. She put out a Christmas CD several years back that is heavenly. I still play it every year.

It’s obviously a personal preference in the end. He has an excellent voice. His cover of “The Christmas Song” is one of the best I have heard.

A local station starts playing Christmas songs all day on Thanksgiving Day...Carrols and popular songs...

One year they played Barbra Streisand singing her version of Jingle Bells...it was horrible...how can you mess up Jingle Bells ??? but she managed to...

They played it about every couple of hours or so...

I called up and complained and so did a lot of other listeners...

They never played that again..

BTW one of the most popular songs is Grandma Got run Over By A Reindeer...
