Immigrant communities across the country including South Florida are in a state of panic. We cant blame them. They have a right to be fearful of what the future holds under President-elect Donald Trump and the encouragement he offered to the kind of haters who seem to enjoy shouting the mantra deport em all.
The atmosphere of hate that came into the open during the campaign has exploded since Mr. Trumps victory. In a six-day period beginning Nov. 9, the day after the election, the Southern Poverty Law Center recorded 437 reports of hateful intimidation and harassment, 136 directed at immigrants, and 900 by late last week. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Mr. Trump did his best to evoke anti-immigrant hysteria among voters and then capitalized on it to coast to victory. We criticized him then and still believe he was wrong. His rhetoric was loaded with misinformation, demagoguery and racial animus.
In his first post-victory interview, however, Mr. Trump toned it down a bit. He told 60 Minutes that as president he would deport or jail up to 3 million criminal immigrants. This sounds like a huge threat, but the sad reality is that the Obama administration has already set records for deportation, nearly 2.7 million since 2008. And if Mr. Trump is referring to those who have committed crimes, the number available is only about 820,000, out of the estimated 11 million people living in the country illegally, according to the Migration Policy Institute....

And the real boggle is that most of them actually treat the maid badly.
It's illegal immigrates that should be worried.
Miami Herald is a Fake News organization.
Our “unbiased” MSM can not distinguish between legal immigrants, who have nothing to worry about, and illegal immigrants who criminals by definition and should be worried about being apprehended and justice being done.
” Is a proctologist involved?”
Well,,,, I’m not involved!
Times are tough, andele vamanos, muchachos.
Not immigrants!!! They are illegal aliens. The moment they stepped across the border they broke the law and are criminals.
My wife is from Mexico and an American Citizen the legal way. She went to University at UT El Paso and her father paid out of country tuition that is even higher than out of State Tuition. She also taught at the University of Houston. She holds multiple degrees.
This is the way it is supposed to work and she did not vote for Clinton.
She and I both have compassion for the illegals. She and I do not want them here unless they are here legally.
So be it!!!!!!
Enforcing the Law = HATE
What a twisted reality we live in
Me, too. Disgusting to find myself derided for being “an American”.
Yes, I really like this list. Good job!
When my grandfather and father immigrated, they had no need to worry if illegals weren’t allowed. They knew you couldn’t just be here illegally. And since they had their work visas, and their sponsoring family / employer (same thing in our case, my great uncle employed my grandfather), why would they panic??
If anyone is panicking it is because they are here having broken our law to do so. Please, panic away.
You bring up a good point.
My son with some special needs doesn’t like it when I don’t do exactly what he wants. And he says “Mommy, you HATE me.” So this technique they use, calling us haters when they don’t get their way, is rather primitive, isn’t it?
The Samuel, 1682. There was no one granting visas.
Throw ALL illegals out. Seize their assets and kick ALL of them out. Criminals.
Indeed stopped at border is deportation per Obama
Meanwhile actual detainee deportations are about non existent
Real deportations that is
My thoughts too - especially with this article being in the Miami Herald.....are they trying to bring more Cubans to trump's side?
So am I.
You'd think after 10 years these imbeciles would get it right.
Legal aliens, no problem.
