Area member of Electoral College: No chance vote changes
The Longview News-Journal ^ | November 20, 2016 | Glenn Evans

The Republican chosen to represent 771,000 Northeast Texans on the obscure panel that actually elects presidents isn't going to be moved from the choice her party made Nov. 8.

"I've been getting letters, emails. I've taken calls, just begging me not to vote for (Donald) Trump," Marty Rhymes said this past week at Gregg County GOP headquarters in Longview.

Those voices were not imploring her to cast her Electoral College vote for U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, who actually was Rhymes' first choice for the White House — and that of a vocal majority of the Northeast Texas GOP.

"I asked them and said, 'Who did you vote for?' And they said, 'Clinton,' " Rhymes said, without having to say she's as likely to cast her Electoral College vote for Hillary Clinton as she is to climb the courthouse.

Rhymes was named the interim Gregg County Republican chairwoman Tuesday, after Chairman Tim Vaughn announced his resignation. She said she will be true to her charge....

It would only take 38 electors to change their votes and Hillary becomes President.

Of course, it’s doubtful she would live to take the oath of office if that were to happen.

Where is the Electoral College located? How many are enrolled for daytime classes? What is the annual tuition? Is there adequate housing?

And then the ensuing civil war. Don’t think they want to be responsible for the downfall of America.

‘”It would only take 38 electors to change their votes and Hillary becomes President.’

Even if they could pull that off which I put the odds at about 1000 to 1 it would have to get past challenges in the Republican House of Representatives on January 6th. The whole attempt is an exercise in futility.

It might be fun to yank their chain by quietly spreading rumors among them that “up to 35 members of the electoral college are having second thoughts about voting for Donald Trump”.

Oh, but they do, Hildy, they do. They just try to hide it - sometimes.

Not gonna happen.

Liberal moonbats want Red State electors to go to against the wishes of their state’s inhabitants?

Good luck with it. And there are few swing states and this time around they don’t matter.

So what you are saying is that the votes of faithless electors can be discarded by the House and Senate, still leaving Trump with a majority.

Both houses have to agree to the objection, so I wouldn't put it past Graham or McCain to vote with the Dems.

I don't think it's going to happen, but it's a little frightening to see how the mechanics of Electoral College actually works.

Not humor, not reality, and possibly a troll?

Two can play the game.... if Dems want to subvert Red State electors, Republicans can do the same to Blue State electors.

In the end the result would be a wash. Its an extreme long shot for Hillary to win.

For the simple reason that swing states didn’t decide the election. Obvious even when following Common Core math.

I expect the EC to vote to go as anticipated next month.

The harassment that electors are experiencing this year is unprecedented, and I believe it’s not a precedent we want to set.

There’s no way I can see that enough electors will be convinced to vote for Hillary, and even if that were to happen the Republican controlled house wouldn’t accept the results.

The only solution I can see is to convince as many of Hillary’s electors as possible to let it be known that if the harassment doesn’t stop they will switch their votes to Trump. It’s in the best interest of any elector to stop this dead in its tracks.

It has to be made clear that death threats, angry phone calls and thousands of emails cannot become an accepted part of the electoral college process for the long term.

Faithless electors are rare.
38 at one is clear corruption, grounds for the House to reject the vote and decide without EC input.

A tiny radical minority is trying to upend the election result.

Red State electors should tell them, why didn’t you exercise your right to vote when it could have made a real difference.

And you couldn’t stand Hillary and now you want to assuage your guilt?

That’s not how life works and stuff it. No one gets a do-over because they don’t like the outcome.

Only 38?? But throughout history, there have been just a relative handful of “faithless” electors, who didn’t vote for their party nominee. Sometimes we hear that one or two, in any given election cycle, didn’t vote as expected. It would be unprecedented, for 38 of them to abandon Trump.

And even if a number of Republicans still are not really behind Trump, would that many Republican electors really abandon Trump and vote for Hillary instead??? That idea really seems impossible, that big numbers of GOP electors would vote for the hated Hillary Clinton, just to show disapproval of Trump.
