It's for my wife's birthday...She is insistent on a 12 gauge but she is only 4'11" and her arms are not long enough for my 1897 Winchester...or any others she has tried. I try to convince her that a 20 gauge slug will kill a deer! I'm not sure if they even make a youth size 12.
But, if she really wants one, buy a reasonably priced used 12-gauge, and shorten the stock. Be sure to put a large recoil pad on it.
Pretty hard to beat a Remington 870 Express youth model 20 gauge for 299.99 at Walmart. One with a few modifications like a magazine extension sleeps by the side of my bed.

That’s what i tell her!

check the specs and or call them.

Very nice! Thanks for that....even in youth!
I think Mossberg makes a Model 500 12 bore with a “youth” size stock.
Hogue makes a rubber stock and forend for the Rem 870 that has a length of pull of 12”. Factory LOP is something like 13 5/8” so that’s pretty short.
You could have any competent gunsmith measure your wife for the proper length of pull and shorten just about any wooden buttstock so that is will fit her.
The length of one’s arms determines the proper buttstock length of pull. Mine measures 12.5”. Its frustrating how difficult it is to handle a long arm with an improper length of pull.
Sounds good....Browsing dealers hasn’t helped...should have thought of going straight to the manufacturers. $315 is reasonable.
Both Remy & Mossy make good hardware, but get a recoil pad for her:

Mossberg sounds like the right fit.
Maybe the first thing is to take the wife to check various youth models, shotgun or center fire just to test fit a stock length she’s comfortable with, measure that length of pull before committing $.
Thanks...may be needed!
Yep.....true....I may have it measured to get it right.
Thanks FR....can count on ya’ll!
Happy shopping!
You should thank the others who mentioned it before me as well. I just provided a link.
Thanks....Just a note...i used to have an old bolt action 12 mossberg with adjustable choke. Gave it to my nephew....Killed a few turkeys with it....Gosh that was a heavy gun but my 1897 Winchester weighs a ton...but i love it!
I’m the same size and I am happy with a 20 gauge for deer hunting. I have a Mossburg 510 youth and love it.
