If it replaces the current welfare system it would be a good thing. Also it has to be a set amount that does not increase if you are not working. I’d like to think such a policy would mean that the push to increase minimum wage to the point that people are simply priced out of the job market would stop. But I doubt the Dems and their Union base really care if the job market is closed to a great many people.
The push to increase the minimum wage is CAUSED by this “minimum income unrelated to work” idea; low-wage workers realize they are ending up in the same position as Welfarians (even living in the same slums), so work is disincentivized. Whole cities can’t find workers to prepare the fast food for their inhabitants, so they are trafficking people thousands of miles to work the deep fryers. Rather than cut the freebies for the shiftless/lazy, they’ll try to raise the wages of those who bother getting dressed each morning (to a point; the minimum wage push only targets the least skilled/lowest paid).
