Big bore air rifles are something of a new phenomenon in the world of shooting and hunting. It turns out there’s some real potential in many of these rifles. You can use it for fun shooting at targets and possibly for hunting small game.
Sam Yang Dragon Claw may look like an over-and-under shotgun slash grenade launcher like, but it’s a .50 caliber air rifle. What's cool about this rifle is it not only shoots bullets, it fires something you might not expect.

Thanks for that. I love good airguns. Discovered them in the 80’s, did a chore and was going to treat myself with what I thought was a “good” airgun, based on childhood memories. went to the gun store, mentioned “Crossman,” and the salesman said “Beeman.” I walked out with an R-8. Delighted ever since.
Still a single shot. Anyone making one with a cyclic rate of around 600?
Can you imagine the purpllectric fits gun grabbers and the ATF would have? Imagine an air gun that fired single shot, three shot burst, or “let ‘ER rip” that weighed less than fifteen pounds, fired a 90 gr projectile at 3,000 fps and could be fired 1,000 times without reloading or recharging? It would change EVERYTHING. LOL.
Also without needing a bore cleaning.
The Quackenbush fires a .495 round ball. One fill with air is good for four shots. It sounds like a car door being slammed...
I’m sure it’s possible. I’ve seen fully auto paintball guns that use a small air tank that you wear on your belt. I once saw one that had duel tanks you wore like a backpack. Hose runs from the tank to your gun.

Some people credit it for the fact that the expedition was successfully completed and not exterminated by the Indians.
Every time they met a group of Indians they demonstrated the rifle and it’s rapid-fire capabilities.
The Indians left them alone because they weren’t sure if everybody on the expedition had a rifle of their own.
I have got a good friend who is really into large caliber air rifles. He sells projectiles for them on eBay. He knew that I am into casting bullets, so when he got his first mold a few years ago he came over to my house and we did some casting. We used a soft lead with very few impurities so that the “pellets” would seal well while engaging in the rifling.
He asked me for a chunk of 2x8. I thought he was going to attach it to one of the big trees behind my house, but he tossed it on the concrete floor of our airplane hangar and shot it with his air rifle. It made a loud whacking sound as the “pellet” split the 2x8. Fortunately it didn’t ricochet off the floor. I asked him to please never do something like that again.
The projectile was about the same weight as you cast for a big handgun and leaves the end of the barrel at approximately the same velocity. It is a slightly different design from a typical handgun bullet. The rings that engage in the rifling were a little deeper. My guess is that it has pretty awesome “stopping power”. Definitely not something you should be shooting at a piece of wood on the floor!
The velocities used are subsonic to keep the noise down and increase accuracy. My friend got into these big air rifles because he likes to target practice at his place without disturbing the neighbors. He uses scuba tanks to recharge the air storage cylinder on the gun.
