My career Army father had so much of the stuff during WWII in the Pacific that afterward he refused to eat it for the rest of his life. Never served at the family table, and not a bit of the mystery meat has ever crossed my lips...and that includes my 24 yrs. in the Navy!

;)

My father worked some for the company. Years ago, he said the old-timers confirmed SPAM as short for ‘spiced ham’, although it is actually pork shoulder meat.

Breakfast (or supper) o’ champions.

Spam good stuff..!

I’m stocking up! How ‘bout you?

We had it in the 50s at BSA campouts, along with bacon & eggs, and occasionally at home. I have a case in the basement with my emergency stores, too.

I found a “sampler pack” on Amazon; I’m going to try it, as I’ve never had the other varieties.

I’ve got a case of regular flavor in the basement stores, but found a 12-pack ‘sampler’ on Amazon, to try. The local market doesn’t have that selection.

I have never seen the Garlic variety.
I keen a cabinet full in case of power outages.

I never liked spam until I got a Panini grill.
Sliced thin with a cheese slicer, it becomes crisp as a potato chip on the Panini grill.

What sort of man doesn’t like chips made of meat? make some nacho sauce and you are good to go.

**Stuff Posing As Meat.**
Shoulder, Pork and Ham. SPAM.

You are thinking of that horrible TREET and now some truly horrible turkey and chicken based versions.

I love the scene in ISLAND IN THE SKY. Plane crashes in the Frozen North, starving men. When supplies are dropped the first thing John Wayne did was pull out the packets of SPAM and throw them as far away as he could.
Bill Mauldin did a cartoon of a Liberty Ship unloading it’s cargo of food supplies to the USSR in WWII. The confused Russians are studying their Russian-English translation book trying to figure out what MAZOLA and SPAM is.

Me? I like SPAM. Made many a meal out of it at the hooch in Thailand (1969). The annex was closer than the chow hall by several miles.

I use it for Atkins. I also use the Underwood Deviled Ham spread and Vienna Sausage. Next to zero carbs, not a lot of fat, but the sodium level alone can kill you.
