Which cartridge do you use for long range hunting?

Back in my “hunting days” I used either a M-109A1 with a 155mm shell (HE or WP) or a 152mm gun (HEAT)/launcher and a Shillelagh missile on my M-60-A2.

My long range hunting was done with either a Titan II ICBM with a Mk-6, 9Mt, warhead or a Minuteman II ICBM with the Mk-12a Re-entry System with three W-78 warheads inside.

I could get my game out to 7000 miles.

300Win for the elk.
Both are very flat for the ranges I would ever take a shot at while hunting.

Well, I'm encouraged by the number of real hunters here who seem to agree that such a range is unethical hunting.

I have seen the videos of successful 1000 yard shots on game and those YouTube videos get the same amount of comments deriding the hunters taking the shot. I notice that people who post themselves taking 1000 yard shots on game don't seem to include the times they missed or wounded the animal.

there are very, very few hunters capable of taking a 1000 yd shot on any game, much less big game.

I can tell you that if I’m hunting with someone who even tries to take such a shot, I’d use the butt of my rifle on his/her head.

No such shot is EVER ETHICAL.

I have never fired a shot on ‘big game’ longer than 325 yards, and then only once.

Do you actually hunt? I doubt it because you would never have said ‘run after’ if you hunted in NV. Have you tried to get close to an Elk? Try it sometime.
As you should know, out here Elk will see you coming MILES away. There is no cover except the ground itself.
And a lot of folks hunt things like coyote and prairie dogs. Not ‘game’ and no big deal if they are wounded to die later. (yeah I know many people use smaller carriages for that).
Ever go out to BLM land and actually pace off 1000 yards, out in the desert? It isn’t much.

Back when I did hunt it was in places with heavy woods. A wounding shot is not that uncommon and not some horrible terrible end of the world unethical thing. S**t happens. Dudes would shoot at a moving target at 50 yards. Is that really so much harder and more chancy than a stationary target at 1000 (if you have the right gun and gear)?
