Moral Foundation Theory: The Reasons You Can't Convince Libs Based on Facts
Ted Talks ^

I am reading his books now. He used to be an activist for Kerry and Obama. His research indicates that this difference is worldwide and throughout all societies.

And that conservatives not only understand libs better than vice versa, but are more balanced in their moral foundations.

You need to understand this if you hope to convince any libs to be conservative. Actually this still might not work, but it is the best approach we have....

I work with a number of lawyers who are all ultra-liberal. They openly state that in terms of politics, the ends justify the means. They acknowledge the weakness of Obama and the corruption of the Clintons, but view it as a necessary evil to ensure that the Democrats remain in power to push the liberal agenda on every issue. They would sell the souls of their own children to ensure a liberal gets appointed to the Supreme Court.

It is because for liberals the act of ‘feeling’ trumps all others. Outcome does not matter; only that you ‘feel’ appropriately.

Politics is about group identity. Hardcore supporters are impossible to change because membership in the group is the only thing that matters.

I think liberals are a bit insane. Their ideas seem almost completely backward from truth and they can’t understand why the outcomes of their decisions are bad.

Benjamin Franklin, Signer of the Declaration of Independence “[O]nly a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”

The people and their leaders in 2016 are no longer virtuous. Therefore, the ground is fertile for tyranny to grow.

W used to drive me crazy, saying about abortion: “There are good people on both sides of this issue.”

Right. There are good people who think ripping babies to pieces is just peachy.

The Left is just the world’s evil people. The Right is a mixture of good and bad people.

A liberal cannot be convinced; in order for the liberal's mindset to change, s/he must be converted. To be converted is to experience metanoia, a complete change of one's thought process.

This usually requires being placed in a situation where every significant event runs counter to one's mindset. For example, most of those who were "America First" isolationists on December 6, 1941, were converted to gung-ho destruction of the Axis over the next 48 hours. That the events of September 11, 2001 did not convert the liberals to the eminent danger of jihadism, and the inherent superiority of Judeo-Christian-Aristotelian principles, forces one to a grave conclusion, that it will take a much more grievous event to shake them from their foundational principles and experience the metanoia necessary for our national and philosophical survival.

Well I can’t click on the vid, so I’ve no clue what it says.
But I can comment anyway!!

Today’s liberals don’t even understand the philosophical underpinnings of their own ideology (groupthink.) They just let themselves be told what to think by their commie overlords.
Whatever is trendy right now, they’re all for it.
Anyone who believes that right and wrong are objective (originating from a God outside ourselves and our own desires) eternal and irreversible, is “on the wrong side of history,” according to Commie groupthink.

Communist ideology is essentially based on the Hegelian notion of thesis + antithesis = synthesis, then repeat with the synthesis becoming the new thesis.
Whatever is true now + what is false = the new truth. Repeat ad infinitum.

So the truth keeps changing. What is truth? Whatever the loudest mouth and biggest guns say it is.
This is why you can be on the right side of history (i.e. a revered Party leader) one minute, and the next thing you know, you’re being stood up against the wall and shot.

He says Liberals are more open to new ideas and people.
I disagree.
Both Liberals and Conservatives can be open to new ideas and people.
The difference comes when those ideas and people turn out to be destructive, Conservatives will say "Enough!" while Liberals will remain "open" and deny the problems or blame it on conservatives not being "open" enough.

I had an acquaintance ( member of a club I belonged to
He was a liberal

We used to argue and as usual I was Hitler
He worked for the Federal Government

He was passed over for promotion by an affirmative action type

His BIL was a Philly Cop who had a heart attack while putting down a semi riot at a HS
While on the ground the students gathered round and laughed
He died

My former lib became a conservative

Liberalism is a mental disorder. Facts do not cure mental disorders.

As a moral question, ask a liberal if, after FDR beat Hitler, would they have supported Truman rearming the Nazis to help fight against Tojo in Japan?

After they answer "of course not," ask them why would they vote for the person who armed the 9/11 al Qaeda terrorists so they could fight against Assad in Syria, who then took those arms, became ISIS, and murdered our ambassador and three others in Libya before going on a murderous rampage across the Middle East?

You would hope but I doubt it.

If Muslims detonated a nuclear bomb in New York City, I would bet a large number of Liberals still would rationalize it away because “Christians” nuked Hiroshima & Nagasaki.

Pretty simple answer. Lots of research indicates people make decisions on emotions, then search for facts to support their decisions.

Indeed, corrupt people, because they are corrupt and are well equipped to understand what people might do to them (since few imagine themselves to be bad), will demand more government to protect them from bad people.

In the same breath they will distrust people who are in commerce and yet blindly trust others in government ... as if you can trust the later with enormous power in all circumstances whatsoever (that no one has an opt out option) but power and wealth that is derived from voluntary exchange? Scary!

Basic premise is wrong. Who would believe that if I lie, cheat and steal to claw my way to the top, I could turn into a Good Samaritan once I get there?

It's the same mental illness to believe that in order to gain freedom you must give away all your rights...

Ironically, Hipsters are among the most conformist of groups despite claiming to value independent thinking.
