Car Jacking - Where are you packing your heat?
American Shooting Journal ^ | 8/24/2016 | J Hines

On the hip, in a case, or on the seat next to the driver, where are you packing for easy access? Car jacking happens almost everywhere and one of the question that comes up is where are you packing your firearm for easy access. Here’s some noise taking place on 1911 Forum on the subject.

boatdoc: many of my friends are appendix carrying for access while driving seems to me that an extra gun could be placed in an ankle holster( a revolver maybe?) for your protection. A purse or briefcase might give the perps a gun they did not have why isn’t the media covering this. I used to live in Chicago and it wa s very safe and the cops were very tough( maybe that is why crimes wa s low back in the ’80s?)

lhawkins: +1 for appendix carry for vehicle. Also, I mounted a plastic coated magnet on the side of the console (designed for firearms). Holds the gun nicely. It will even hold a gun through a pocket hoslter.

monadh: When I’m in my car, I always have two pistols. I generally carry a Springfield 1911 wherever I go, so that is in the holster on my hip. The second is a CZ 9mm of some sort, usually my CZ 75 PCR with a 16 round magazine, 1 chambered for a total of 17 rounds, in an unzipped pistol blanket right next to me. I am too large to gracefully pull a pistol out of the holster, and I can deploy the other pistol much faster. Read the rest of the conversation here, how about you all, where are you packing your heat, in such crisis?

I recommend Taurus Judge. 5 shot revolver which fires 45s and shotgun shells. I live in NJ, so I am not allowed to carry until I get out of here.

There is a pocket in my door. I have it in one of those padded zipper cases, unzipped, with the handle at an angle where it is easy to grab with either hand.

And with all that firepower a cop will ask you what are you afraid of? My answer: Nothing.

In a holster under my left leg.
Kahr CW45.
Goes in the door pocket when in a drive-thru. Don’t want to frighten the pharmacist.

Isn’t that why center consoles were invented?

Some years ago, I went to renew my carry permit.

Had my G19 on the hip, two spare 15 round mags, and a SW 642 BUG in small of back with one speed loader in the pocket. Also had a boot knife tucked in my boot top.

At the Sheriff’s office, I had to clear and check them. A young deputy was making “the scowl” at me, and asked me why I needed to carry “all that firepower”.

I pointed at HIS kit - body armor, web belt, Glock in a leg holster, Taser, pepper spray, etc., and said “Same reason you do.”

The OLDER deputy next to him - closer to my age - laughed and said “Have a good day, sir...”

Never place your handgun on the seat.

1986 Miami FBI Shoot Out

One of the agents that lost his gun put it on the seat so he could grab it faster. Unfortunately he rammed his car into another car and the gun went flying not to be found for the remainder of the fight. He had to retreat and watch the whole thing.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A friend had his revolver stolen from a center console.
Nothing else was touched - not laptop, not briefcase, not tools. Police said that's how it is 99% of the occurances. Therefore, don't put valuables in the center console when you are not in the car.

Same here. Very little room in my pickup and no console so it was either carry on me or construct a false compartment either overhead or in the door. The door won.

False compartments are iffy where I live anyway. You can store in any factory compartment, but “custom” is illegal.

But frankly, I prefer the door pouch method. Absurdly easy (it’s designed to hold a cup).
