EPA: Harley-Davidson Must Buy Stoves As Punishment For Air Violations

President Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency is going after Harley-Davidson for allegedly selling motorcycles that emit more air pollution than the almighty federal government allows, and is punishing them by making them pay for people’s stoves.

The federal tree-hugging watchdog complained that the motorcycle company “manufactured and sold approximately 340,000 illegal devices, known as ‘super tuners,’ that, once installed, caused motorcycles to emit higher amounts of certain air pollutants than what the company certified to EPA.”

“Since January 2008, Harley-Davidson has manufactured and sold two types of tuners, which when hooked up to Harley-Davidson motorcycles, allow users to modify certain aspects of a motorcycle’s emissions control system,” the EPA claimed. “These modified settings increase power and performance, but also increase the motorcycles’ emissions of hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides (NOx). These tuners have been sold at Harley-Davidson dealerships across the country.”

While the company eventually settled with the EPA, Harley-Davidson maintains it didn't do anything wrong by selling its "Screamin' Eagle" tuners. Bloomberg reports:

Coincidence? Not likely!"

True that !
Maybe if Harley knows of some welders somewhere(?) who can build wood burning stoves (that also take coal).
Maybe they can build them, themselves , and write-off the expenses.
We are talking about "the Fed" here , who pays $200 dollar$ for a hammer and/or $1200 for a toilet.
Its not like Harley has to build to Fed Govt. specs !
Maybe they could even build them with a double baffle system to look like a Harley, with a cooking area where the seat might be.
If done right, these could be a collectors item !!

I calculated once that one coast-to-coast flight of Air Force One loaded with Mr. and Mrs. O and their respective staffs, security, hangers-on and press, uses as much fuel as my little household would -— in 400 years.

Why don’t Harley owners quit registering and paying for licenses on their bikes? Car owners quit also, the plates, registration, and regulations are there to control the citizens, not raise money or make the roads safer. QUIT COMPLYING....JUST QUIT.

That is fine, the stoves will likely have better performance than the antiquated fashion statements..........

There were a good many things Nixon managed to give America which were definitely not in our best interests. Ready to be flogged and beaten, I was rejoicing when he stepped down/aside/out. My very first vote for a President, and this one individual received it. With age, came wisdom, and much more extreme vetting.

I suppose the stoves go to those who contribute least to our country. That already gets a free home, free electricity, free water, free food (both home and school), free bus passes, free medical, free phones, free money, free computers, free internet, low cost cable, free heat and air, free prescription drugs, free washers at schools to use, and now free stoves.

Being poor has its definite advantage.

Likely thought but the government doesn’t work that fast. They probably have been studying this and having meetings upon meetings with a strategic plan and a ton of powerpoint presentations with at least 5 excel spreadsheets before bring up the matter.

The EPA’s main purpose seems to be the destruction on American jobs.

Fashionable Fascism.

Another proof, among others, of Hayek’s Continuum.

POST OF THE DAY.

Remember:

And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!

Somewhat Hitleresque punishment for Harley.

Leave it to obama.

Old Harley’s were terrible. In the early 70s they leaked from day one. My Road King is 8 years old and not a drop even now at 37,000 miles.

Wow, a whole 37,000 miles. Yes, Harley should have been making EVO motors since the 1930's to avoid oil leaks.....

For a motorcycle 37,000 miles is a lot. Especially air cooled engine.
