Groups like CAIR aid and abet terrorism and should be prosecuted. The Department of Justice is sitting on a “mountain of evidence” against CAIR and other Muslim Brotherhood groups. Obama scuttled those prosecutions. Trump will right that wrong.

As for the public declarations of being ‘moderates’ ... taqyyia or are just awaiting the right moment to strike. In either case the highest calling for any muslim is to follow in their Founder’s footsteps - which, in Christianity means being ‘Christ-like’, in Islam means being ‘Mohammad-like’ killing, raping and destroying.
So called ‘moderates’ are apostates and other muslims are obligated to kill them - I forget which part of the 5 Islamic holy books this comes from.
If a group of people wish to assemble to study and criticize Islam or Christianity, they are free to do so.
So I suppose the question becomes "government." According to Lincoln we have a "government of, by and for the people." This makes it difficult to separate what "people" can do versus what "government" to do.
What CAIR wants to do is make criticism of Islam illegal by anyone, and they are starting with "government."

Actually, the Founding Fathers never anticipated religion to mean anything other than Judeo-Christianity as its definition was a method to worship God. Without faith in Jesus Christ, any other activity was not in His Plan.
The entire recognition of the freedom of religion was premised on colonial policies from England which allowed ecclesiastical policies other than the Church of England.
Only a trace of Islam existed anywhere in America, which is why portions of the Koran were published circa 1806 in response to the Tripoli pirates and the US attempts to obtain the return of ransomed/enslaved Americans and their ships. The concepts of Islam were so foreign to American thought, that Jefferson and Franklin sought to have portions of the Koran published to warn Americans of its threat to civilized society.

I would be wary of Lincoln quotes because there is a long history of people using him for effect, and not just to sell stuff.
This is especially the case if a quote uses terminology that is current to the American idiom: “moderate” and “fundamental” in this case.
Recall that in Lincoln’s time the Ottoman still stood and the Barbury were still in recent memory. Likewise the fact that Muslims had been the most notorious of African slavers. There was not, then, the present dynamic by which many try to divide so-called “moderates” from fundamentalist Muslims.
There are a number of well documented criticisms of Islam by famous and well recieved persons, from Adams to Churchill, as well as before or since, that are available to use.
Actually, the Constitution DOES say something relavent to Islam.
It claims to be the Law of the Land.
It is also a document constructed according to English Common Law as it existed at the time and inseparable from that Law.
Since Islam is a political/legal framework that purports to be the law of the land it is not compatible with governance by constitutional means and, likewise, we already HAVE a common law which is NOT sharia so Islam is not compatible with the underlying basis for our Constitution and all of the origional charters of the several States that ratified the Constitution.
