Please help! I need a job in the Tulsa area immediately! In danger of being homeless by sept. 8th!

Posted on 08/17/2016 10:57:18 AM PDT by acad1228

I'm a 54 year old draftsman. I've been unemployed since March 2nd. I've been to 31 job interviews after applying to over 60 companies. No one wants to hire a 54 year-old man who is confined to a wheel chair.

When I was laid off from my job of over 22 years, I finally bit the bullet and filed for disability. I was approved, but I won't start receiving payments until October 26th. My rent on this place is due on Sept. 8th but my last unemployment check won't cover it. My wife and I are both disabled and out of much needed meds.

I'm not some damned bum looking to let the government take care of me. I've worked hard all my life. Since I graduated high school, I've rarely worked less than 40 hours per week. I actually calculated it and I've paid in well over $200,000 in State and Federal taxes.

Please, if anyone knows of a job in the Tulsa area that I could do from a wheel chair, let me know. It will be painful, but it's nothing I haven't been dealing with for over the past ten years.

It doesn't even have to be long term. Just enough to get me through to the end of October.

I just had nice neighbors evicted; it was five days only in TX. They violated the agreement not to have dogs.

You have offered cash along with another and I think if the 100 people who have posted on this site would all send a little something....everyone can spare something, we could together, help to at least pay the rent and take the pressure off. Just a few days can mean so much and most of us have had trying times ourselves.
I do not wish to see Acad1228 have to sell his Choctaw pipe. It should be the LAST thing he should have to let go and not to pay the rent. I know how much my feather, a gift from a late Cherokee friend, means to me.
Please tell us where to send our helping hands and at least some of us will do what we can to buy you a bit of time.

You might do better with ebay for the pipe and books. If you send me a couple titles I can look it up.3,000 is not a lot of money but when your broke it’s horrible.Let me do some research on the pipe.

I wondered if Choctaw Nation wouldn’t be interested in purchasing the peace pipe.

An auction house which specializes in Indian artifacts would be the way to go but the amount of time involved from consignment to payment is too much.

If you need help selling on eBay please let me know. I have been on that site since 1998 selling antiques, collectibles and even every day household items.

Also, have you spoken to anyone at Choctaw Nation? I was just looking at their web site and brother, it looks like they have an aggressive job placement program.

From the web site I have posted a link below:

” If you have a background in manufacturing, engineering, quality, DRAFTING or assembly, we have a place for you “. Choctaw Manufacturing and Defense.

I can help with a franklin. where?

thank you much. but I'm not looking for a handout. Like I told another FReeper, I haven't hit that point just yet

Hold the phone folks!!! My wife just talked to the dealer she bought the car from. He said if she would bring it by, he would look at it and possibly buy it back from her. She bought it two years ago for $3800, but he may be able to get her close to what we need. His dealership is eighty miles away so we're rolling change to buy the gas to get her there. She has a friend who would drive her home.

There is light at the end of this tunnel!!!!

No matter though. In getting ready for our yard sale, we assembled a lot of things we can live without. so we're gonna go ahead with it.

Even so, I would still like to have a job. I'm gonna keep trying. I would rather work, even if I am in pain, than to draw disability. At least then I could buy my wife another car.

but thank you all. FReepers are the best. I'll report back tomorrow to let you know how we fared.

You have to be careful and check to see if you are permitted to work because of the SS disability.Call your local Congressmen office and tell them what is going on.I checked ebay and there is one listing for that peace pipe for 500.00.No listings for sold.

LOL! That's my pipe you saw on Ebay. But yeah, I'd gladly sacrifice the disability if I can find a job to earn my keep.

It’s horrible.China killed it.Best to go with vintage also games are a big seller.I could write a book and I guess you could too.It helped our charity pay the bills.I would send out a newsletter with ever purchase.Once I showed the house we were working out of and said wouldn’t it be nice to have a chandelier over the Blessed Mother statue.A woman from ebay sent me a link and told me to pick out what I wanted. She paid for it.It was 2,000.00.I cried when it came.Called the electrician and he said I can’t charge you to install after hearing that story.Back then we were all family:)

No offense, but after working the last 25 years averaging about 300 hours per month, I wish I had only paid 200k in taxes. That covers 2010+ for me. What is my benefit? Never taken workers comp, never took a dime from the Feds of other people’s money, never asked for a handout.

Sorry, but why aren’t you working at something else in the meantime until you can get a job for your trade?

Smh.

I'm trying to. I've applied for everything I think can be remotely done from a wheel chair. I even tried to get a job as a Walmart greeter, but no one is hiring. Or they're just not hiring old men in wheel chairs. Of course they can't say that, but sometimes that's how it feels.
